Dylan Luke Taylor isn't your typical high school cross-country runner, He in fact used to be a pro skate boarder before he decided to hang up the board and start on the long run. Dylan when he was younger had been invited to many skate competitions and even got to be in the X-games. Dylan isn't the only Taylor to be in the skateboard lifestyle, His brother Adam Taylor won silve at the X-Games for Skateboard Big Air in 2011. Though Skateboarding seems like a pretty cool career, Dylan wanted something a bit more and turned to running. We caught up with him to talk about his former athletic endeavours and his current love as he and his team prepares for the state meet this weekend
When did you first start skateboarding and what did you love about the sport?
I first picked up a board when I was two. My parents got it a garage sale. That was in 1996. I loved the sport because there is no better feeling than landing a new trick that's been on your mind for weekks, months, or ssometimes even years.
How did you get into running?
I always knew i could run well. I did a Thanksgiving 5k for fun and I didn't do bad. The next year i gave cross country a try and it ended up being a good gig.
Do you miss the skateboader lifestyle at all?
Of course i miss it. A lot of time i feel out of place in certain places, but I've always had the mentality of a skateboarder.
What do you love most about running in high school?
I love the competition. I always have. It's also a good way to get to college.
Are you looking to run in college?
Ye, I am not for sure who though.I have had alot of injuries, but might look at some other options.
What is the one thing you'll miss about the team you run with now?
The craziness of the team! I love it.
