Arroyo Victorious At Puerto Rican National Juvenile Championships

Add another piece of hardware to Andres Arroyo's collection. Recently, the Colonial senior made a trip to his native Puerto Rico where he competed in the Puerto Rican National Juvenile Championships. The distance might have been something new for Arroyo, but the 6k race didn't seem to phase him winning in a time of 20:58. He says the whole experience was enjoyable.

"It's exciting because I ran in the place where I was born with the experience I gained in Florida. It's always an honor to run here."

While most distance runners are either competing in indoor track or preparing for the upcoming outdoor season, Arroyo has one more cross country race. The win earned him a spot at the 2013 NACAC Cross Country Championships in Jamaica on January 26th. This will be the culmination of a great cross country career for Arroyo who repeated as the 4A cross country state champion this year and guided the Grenadiers to two team titles.

When the season ends, Arroyo will then prepare for the outdoor track and field season where he is the defending champion in the 3200, 1600, and a member of the winning 4x800 meter relay team. He says his goals for the season are simple.

"I want to be able to showcase my talents in every event."
