Fort Walton Beach senior Ivy Chastain finished off her cross country career with her second consecutive top ten finish at the 3A Cross Country State Championships. In 2012, she placed ninth to guide the Vikings to a runner-up team finish. Recently, Chastain made her college announcement. See where the northwest Florida standout will spend her next four years.
What has the recruiting process been like for you?
Everyone was just so nice and considerate to me. It was great to meet so many wonderful people.
What schools did you take visits to?
I visited Florida Gulf Coast University, University of Tampa, and USF.
Why did you ultimately choose South Alabama?
I think i just really felt as if i belonged at USA. I had prayed about it a lot and every time i thought about the decision I kept coming back to them and thinking wow I loved everything about them. The school, the running program, the coach, everything was great.
What are you looking forward to most about running in college?
I am looking forward to the new higher level of intensity of the workouts and the experience of everything that comes with it.
How much of a relief was it to get it out of the way so you could focus on your senior season?
I feel so much better now that i have decided. I was nervous before, but i feel as though I have really made the right choice. Now I'm just excited and can run and not worry about college anymore,
How would you describe yourself as a runner?

I personally want to always do my best. I feel like if I'm not aspiring to be better than I'm not doing anything at all. I really just depend on God to give me the strength to run. I know that with out him i would be nothing.
What are some of your greatest memories from high school?
My greatest memories is when I can enjoy being with my team and when the best in all of us is brought out. It really brings a smile to my face to see them succeed.

I am really am trying to work towards advancing to the state finals in the 3200 because i haven't made it out before.
