Pasco's Alfreda Steele is the defending 2A state champion in the 100m dash and long jump and 200m runner up. The triple threat trails only Khalifa St. Fort as the top senior in the state in those events. St. Fort who was the IAAF World Youth runner up in the 100m, will not compete for her high school St. Thomas Aquinas and focus on training for international competition under T&T Olympian Ato Boldon. Summer Schafers was one of the favorites to win the 4A state championship in the girls pole vault before a fluke accident sidelined those plans. The Olympia junior and FSU signee broke her foot prior to the district meet. This year, Schafers is healthy and ready to improve on her 12'0 personal best set at the Bob Hayes Invitational, and win a state title before she heads off to Tallahassee. Vaulters from as far as Canda will head to Jacksonville for the Street Vault held this year the Jacksonville landing. You've seen pole vault at track meets, maybe even at the beach, but this another awesome avenue to showcase this event. Making it a vibrant meet their will be an dj, announcer, as well as music. Every participant receives a T-shirt and championship trophies will be given out to the overall winners along with medals to the top three in each category. Today at the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic in Winter Park, he ran the much anticipated 3200 meter race again. Despite the field being well-stocked with Florida talent, Arroyo was all alone within the first 200 meters and kept it that way the entire race. He was even LAPPING people h6alf way through the THIRD lap of the race--holy crap!
