Advancement Rules:
The first four contestants in each individual event and the first four teams in each relay event will advance to the State Championships (Friday, May 2nd at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville). All Ties will be broken for advancing.
Field Events (Horizontal Jumps and Throws):
The best 9 distances in each preliminary event (first 3 throws and jumps) will move on to finals for an additional 3 throws or jumps. According to what appears to be a rule change for the state series (Rule 4.14.2.3.2 c1), "One more competitor than there are scoring places shall qualify for the finals. Ties for the final place shall also advance to finals. The finals shall be competed in one flight." Best mark from all 6 distances will be scored. All legal marks will be measured.
Preliminary Events:
The top three from each heat plus the next two fastest times will move on to finals.
Non-Preliminary Events:
All heats against time with the fast heat scheduled second. The fastest 4 athletes/relays will advance to State Meet.
Admission information: Admission to the meet is $7.00 per person and only FHSAA State Series Passes will be honored for admission. Spectators will enter through the main gate on the east side of the stadium where the road is closed for the meet. Spectators will be issued a wristband that will allow them to come and go throughout the day and if lost will have to purchase another one to enter the meet.
Coaches/Athletes Admission: Each school will receive 4 wristbands that will allow coaches to move between the stadium/track and the practice area on the baseball field. Athletes in uniform will be admitted for free and will have access to move between the stadium/track and practice field. All coaches and athletes must use gate entrance at south end of track where athletes check-in for events. The gate at the north end of the track that leads to the pavilion will only be used as an exit after each running events as athletes will not be allowed on the infield once field events are over. Coaches will not be allowed on the track or infield at any time during the meet per FHSAA rules.
Warm-up area: The warm-up area is the baseball field south of the track/stadium and the athletes will enter the track at the clerks table. Athletes will be given enough time to do some strides on the track before their races begin.
Jury of Appeals: Will be announced at the Coaches meeting. A head coach must first consult with the meet referee to discuss all potential appeals. If the coach feels that the terms and conditions of competition or the application of the rules have been misapplied or misinterpreted after consulting the referee, a written appeal shall be made to the jury. The referee will have the proper appeal form.
Situations subject to appeal include: 1) Misapplication of the rules, which must be filed within 30 minutes of the announcements of results. 2) Correction of Clerical or team scoring errors which must be made within 48 hours of the end of the meet. 3) Correction of meet results involving an ineligible participant which may be made at any time when discovered. 4) Failure to follow a procedure contained in the terms and conditions of competition announced in advance by the meet director.
Situations not subject to appeal include: 1) Any judgment decision pertaining to violation or alleged violation of the rules. 2) A decision made by the timers that does not involve misapplication of a rule or the terms and conditions of competition. 3) Whether a start is fair and/or legal.
Excused Competitors: A twelve-minute time limit has been established by the games committee for excused field event competitors to compete in another event. The twelve minutes begin when the athlete checks out of an event.
Scratched Competitors: A contestant who is entered in an event in a state series meet on any level and is later scratched from that event will be disqualified from participating in all remaining events in the meet. This is a postseason meet and postseason rules apply, without exception. This means that if an athlete misses a scheduled event, they are disqualified from the entire meet.
** The only people allowed on the infield are athletes while they are competing and meet officials while they are officiating. There will be no exceptions for this. Once the field events are completed, there should be only meet officials on the infield. The only entrance to the track will be through the clerks table.
** Teams may set up tents, tarps, etc, on the visitor side starting in the grass area to the west of the storage shed/clerk tent around to the NW corner of the facility. Please see facility map of The Rock which will included in your team packet.
