It was a bitterly cold and windy night in Port Orange for the Spruce Creek Invitational. It was the first meet held at Spruce Creek in decades and the school was excited to break in their beautiful new rubberized track. An hour and a half from home, it was two of the state's best from Lake County who burned up the track even under chilly conditions. Jeffrey Demps, a senior at South Lake HS who signed a football scholarship with UF last month, followed up his 10.68 prelim performance to finish with a state leading 10.60 in the 100 meter finals. Later in the night, he got his second win with a 21.90 200 meter dash--over a second in front of the second place finisher. Leesburg's Shericka Ward cruised to big victories in both hurdle events, with a 14.90 in the 100H and a 46.67 in the 300H--4th best in the state this season. Other top performances: Brooke Nebel 2:21.17 800m, Lutrisha Altidor 58.71 400m, Ryan Noeker 4:08.79 and Phillip Wise 4:11.07 1500m, Amanda Perkins 4:47.19 1500m, David Howard 14.46 110H, Wilamena Hopkins 117-4 Discus.
