The Westminster Academy boys are coming off a 1A cross country state championship, the first in 28 years. They hope to duplicate that success on the track this season as the top returning team in 1A and hoist the championship trophy for the third time since 2014.
Donald Lamb was on-site at the 1A Region 2 Championship at Holloway Park and processed over 400 photos including this images of Olivia Rovin. Dawning the yellow S of Shorecrest Prep, Rovin's story is more like that of a superhero after being diagnosed with cancer at the start of 2015. The senior has since beaten the disease, went onto make the state meet in both cross country and track over the past year, and recently had her best regional cross country finish, crossing the line in second place at this year's meet.
This year's Indian Rocks Christian Open has a new location thanks to recent weather. The meet will be held at Taylor Park in Largo and the Golden Eagles are hoping to improve on the boys runner-up and girls third place finishes from 2015. Defending champions Leo Ochoa of Berkeley Prep and Josie Garba of Tampa Prep return with a chance to repeat.

The 2015-2016 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Over 375 teams and just shy of 4,000 athletes competed in the flrunners.com Invitational 16. The meet consisted of SIXTEEN high school races. We merged all the results to find out which boys were the best of the best! Where do you rank?
The Indian Rocks Christian Open opened up on a sweltering summer evening. Tampa Prep freshman Josie Garba and Berkeley Prep's Leo Ochoa won the boys race. Shorecrest Prep boys and Berkeley Prep girls took home team titles. Andy Warrener gives us the complete rundown.

Shorecrest Prep senior Luke Peterson is the third best returner in 1A after running 16:09.90 at the 1A Region 1 Championship. Peterson was 12th at the state meet and will look to lead the charge for the Chargers team title run.
Oak Hall and Holy Trinity have been the top two teams in 1A for a long while. The Tigers have won the last three meetings at state. Is 2015 Oak Hall's year? Check out the top ten girls teams in the state's smallest class.

Day one of the flrunners.com Invitational 15 kicks off with our JV Blue girls race at 3:20. The small school and large school girls race will come next followed by the boys small school and large school races. The day will conclude with the college men and women. Shorecrest Prep senior Assata Trader has made her college decision. The 2013 1A state champion in the 100 meter dash considered the University of North Florida, North Carolina A&T State University and Florida Atlantic University. Hey flrunners! A quick thank you to Todd for letting me blog again. I seriously love writing blogs for flrunners. It's such an honor.I can't believe it's already March and outdoor season. My senior year is really going by quickly. I feel like it was just cross country season.I'm happy to say I signed with the University of Georgia .It's so nice to know where I am going. I love competing for my team, but I'm so excited to go to college and run for UGA.
Shorecrest Prep senior Alex Eaton finished her cross country career with a runner-up finish at the 1A Cross Country Finals. She boasts a personal best of 18:18.26 for 5000 meters. On the track, she finished fifth as a junior in the 3200 meters where she ran a personal best time of 11:21.29. Recently, Eaton announced she will be heading north to Athens, Georgia to run the for the University of Georgia.
Shorecrest Prep senior Ross Porter had a great high school career in the dark green and vegas gold. He finished his cross country career with an 11th place showing at the 1A state meet. What's up Flrunners? I can't believe that the season is over already. I hope that everyone really enjoyed their seasons. I'm really sad that my high school cross country career has come to an end. States this year was my favorite race of my entire school and I'm so glad I could end my season on a good note.
This past Friday, my teammates and I ran districts at Taylor Lake Park. It's crazy that I will never race at this park again. It's one of the only legit cross country courses in Pinellas County and I have probably raced there like 20 times. I have so many memories here and I added one more great memory Friday morning.
What's up Flrunners? Last Tuesday, Shorecrest had our Bay Conference Meet. It was kind of an odd day to have the meet, so only four teams showed up. We knew we would have yet another try at getting a perfect score. We felt pumped, and we were exited to try to get that 15 points!
Hey flrunners! Hope you all are having a great week of racing and training. Thursday, my team competed in St. Petersburg City Championships. This meet has always been one of my favorites. I've lived in St. Pete my whole life and I know a lot of the runners in the city. I love being able to cheer for a lot of friends at various schools.
City bragging rights are on the line at the St. Petersburg City Championships. Twelve teams will head to Crescent Lake Park on Thursday. Who will come out on top? Hey flrunners! This past weekend my team raced at the Flrunners.com Invitational. Congrats to all who raced at this meet. There were some really fast times, especially from Karen Xiang who won the girls Race of Champions. Flrunners had misty perfect weather (with some showers), and it was really nice to get to race on such a nice, flat course.
The 5th Annual Jim Ryun Invitational had a different flare to it this year. After running last year, on the inaugural Holloway Park course, the meet once again returned, but instead of the standard varsity and junior varsity races, Meet Director Paul White decided on a wave format. Never been done in Florida for a high school race (we believe), each team had their number ones run against each other, two's, three's, all the way down to the number sevens. We have video coverage of every race, every winner, and over 1000 photos of all the action!
Hey flrunners! Hope you all are having a great week. My teammates and I did the Mountain Dew Invitational this past Satuday (and so did 71 other girls teams and 68 other boys teams. Crazy! I was so pumped to do this race. I ran my first ever cross country race at UF in 7th grade and it's where I fell in love with running. Also, it was my mom's birthday and I wanted to perform well for her since she came all the way to watch me on her birthday.
Hey Flrunners! I hope that everyone has enjoyed the first two weeks of the season. It looks like everyone is off to a great start. Last Thursday, my teammates and I had our first meet. It was the Indian Rocks Christian Season Opener at Taylor Lake Park. Sixteen schools competed in this meet and Indian Rocks did a great job putting it together. This meet was a challenge, but it was also really fun!
The 2013 Indian Rocks Invitational was sped up to duck a storm system that threatened lower Pinellas County on Thursday evening. The JV race was bumped up to 4pm and the Varsity boys and girls races were combined for a 4:45pm start. The boys started two minutes ahead of the girls to curb congestion on the course.
Alex Eaton spent her summer days outside, where she launched into carefully conceived workouts, mixing long and short distances that covered flat surfaces and hills. (via Tampa Bay Times)
The Shorecrest Prep boys cross country team placed 12th at the Cross Country Finals in 2012. Fans, no need to worry though. The Chargers plan on charging on in 2013, and the boys told Coach Amy Raab that the running community had a whole lot to look forward to in 2013. Senior Ross Porter, who finished 14th at state last year is the team's number one runner.
The ladies of Shorecrest Prep cross country are back in 2013, and looking for a podium finish, after just missing out in third in 2012. The Chargers return all seven of their runners from the state meet. At the helm, is third place finisher Alex Eaton. Eaton looks to once again be one of the top runners in 1A along with Julie Wollrath and Sarah Candiano

Coral Reef sophomore Kurt Convey and Shorecrest Prep junior Alex Eaton are this week's Warrior of the Week winners. Convey won the University of Miami Greentree Invitational in 16:01.62 against some of South Florida's top runners. Eaton set a new course record at the Seffner Christian Kickoff Class crossing the line in 19:23.70.
