The Boyd Anderson Cobras might be known more for their track prowess then on the cross country course, but things are changing. Coach Spann's squad swept both the team titles at the 3A District 15 Championship at Mills Pond Park. It marked the second in the row for the boys and the first for the girls under her tenure. South Florida correspondent Eddie Romero was on-site and has all the race video and interviews.

The Chiles boys (pictured above) won their second straight 3A track and field state championship in 2015, defeating rival Leon by 14 points. In 2014, the Timberwolves ousted Miami Northwestern by three points in a meet that came down to the final event of the night. Fast forward to 2016, and it looks like it could be another battle between Chile and MNW. 

Flrunners All Time Top 25: Boys Relay Events Todd Grasley Feb 7, 2015

Boyd Anderson's 40.09 at the 1998 Golden South Classic is the top time in the 4x100m while the epic battles between MNW and STA in the 4x4 in 2011 earned them the first and third fastest marks. Charlotte's 4x800m quartet that finished second at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 7:30.31 is more than seven seconds faster than any other Florida foursome to run the event. We take a look at the top twenty-five boys relays times in our database.

Boyd Anderson was third in 2014 and looks to be the team to beat lead by mid-distance standout Javon Patterson. Patterson Not Given Fair Shot At JAAA National Junior Championships Denise Spann Jun 24, 2014

This past weekend Javon Patterson went down to Jamaica for the 2014 JAAA National Junior Championship to compete in the 800m. Patterson was coming in with the 3rd fastest time out of all 14 boys registered to run. During the two days of competition, they decided to cancel the prelims of the 800m and made it a time final to be run on day two. It was then apparent that the boys in the U20 division were going to be running in 2 sections; Patterson was not in the fast section to everyone’s surprise.

Javon Patterson has had a very successful season especially in the 800m. He ran on some big stages such as Florida Relays, Disney High School Track and Field Showcase, Louie Bing, and Golden South. He posted his fastest time of the season at Florida Relays when he ran 1:52.04. Many thought it was a fluke, but each time after that in different race situations and against different athletes Patterson showed up and showed out. 

Athletes Of The Week : Teahna Daniels & Javon Patterson Todd Grasley Apr 11, 2014

First Academy junior Teahna Daniels and Boyd Anderson junior Javon Patterson are this week's Athletes of the Week. Daniels clocked a US#2 all conditions time of 11.37 to win at the prestigious Texas Relays. She followed that up with a head to head to win over East Ridge sophomore Kaylin Whitney, in a 11.44 seconds which is the fourth fastest all-conditions time of 2014. Patterson bested a very competitive field in the 800 meters, holding off the field, to finish first in a then US#2 and current US#5 time of 1:52.04.

The class of 2012, held some very talented athletes all around. Two of those athletes Shayla Sanders and Kyri Tabor, were on top of their game in high school leading the competition, but going to college was a whole different ball game. Both suffered freshman season ending injuries that forced them to reevaluate many things.

Athletes Of The Week: Michelle Howell, Javon Patterson Todd Grasley May 22, 2013

Seminole Ridge senior Michelle Howell and Boyd Anderson sophomore Javon Patterson are this week's Athlete of the Week winners. A week after winning a state title in the 800 metersshe took her talents to Orlando where she won the same event at the Golden South Classic  with a new personal best time of 2:09.61 just shy of a meet record. Patterson finished runner-up at the 4A state finals to Andres Arroyo, but proved he will be one to beat for years to come. He followed that up with a runner-up finish at Golden South in the 800. His time of 1:51.13, was the second fastest in the state only to Arroyo, the fastest in the country for a sophomore, and 15th fastest regardless of class in all of the U.S.

Boyd Anderson senior Kali Davis-White and Gulf Breeze senior Austin Droogsma are this week's Athletes of the Week. Davis-White competed against the best sprinters in the nation once and again and like she did at Brooks PR came out with the win. Her time of 23.48 in the 200 is the 7th fastest all-time indoors Droogsma had a monster day in the throws at the Patriot Invitational. In the shot put he unleashed a new personal best, state leading, and US#1 mark of 60-1 and he hrew the discus a state leading 178-2.25.

Boyd Anderson senior Kali-Davis White is one of the nation's top sprinters in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. White was also a member of the Lady Cobras state winning 4x100 meter relay. Recently, the star narrowed her college choices down to four and in the end pledged her services to the Florida State Seminoles.

Boyd Anderson star Shayla Sanders capped off her senior season with three gold medals at the 4A State Finals. Sanders won the 100 (11.63), 200 (23.64) and was the anchor leg on the team's winning 4x100 meter relay. Her 30 point contribution led the Lady Cobras to their first ever team championship. For her performances at the state meet and throughout the season she was  featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces In The Crowd section which highlights top athletes in the prep and college rankings from across the nation.

Warrior of the Week: Davis-White, Uruburu Todd Grasley May 9, 2012

Boyd Anderson junior Kali-Davis White and Bartram Trail junior Nick Uruburu are this week's Warrior of the Week winners. Davis-White finished runner-up in both the 100 and 200 meter dash at the 4A State Finals, as well as being a member of the state championship 4x1 team. Her 26 point contribution was a major factor in the Lady Cobras winning their first state title in school history. Uruburu took home gold in the 400 with a blistering US#6 time of 46.75 and followed that up with a gold in one of the most exciting races all season as he came from behind in the 4x400 and propelled Bartram Trail to the 3A team title.

Lake Brantley senior Otniel Teixeira and Boyd Anderson senior Shayla Sanders are this week's Warrior of the Week. Teixeira remained undefeated in both the 800 and 1600 meters running season best times of 1:54.15 and 4:19.85. Sanders continued her marvelous senior year by posting three US#1 times at the Sam Burley Hall of Fame Invitational.

Shayla Sander’s nickname is “lil hemi”. The Boyd Anderson junior has a powerful motor and has topped out at speeds of 11.45 in the 100 and sub 24 in the 200 this season. Her coach Damion Thomas says they call her that because of the way she pumps her arms when she runs.“She looks like a bullet out of the blocks and she looks so fearless. She accelerates so quickly.”

Robin Reynolds Opens HS Career; Blazing Times at Louie Bing Jason Byrne Mar 1, 2009

The Louie Bing Classic is always a star studded affair for the short stuff and the jumps and that's basically because Miami teams typically dominate these events and all the big guns come out for it. This year was no exception and our leaderboard of a week's worth of state rankings was completely rewritten by this meet for just about every event 800 meters and shorter, boys and girls. Last year's much lauded middle school sensation Robin Reynolds officially became a freshman phenom, opening her high school career with Miami Jackson. She earned three golds and a bronze in the two-day meet.

DAVIE - A Boyd Anderson High School sophomore who disappeared during a cross-country race at Vista View Park was found dead in a lake there Tuesday morning, authorities said. Authorities had been searching since Monday night for the 15-year-old boy, identified by police as Corey McKenzie. He was competing in a 3.1-mile race with teams from three other high schools when he disappeared, officials said.Read Full Story/Watch Video
