About Me

Played football in high school in Michigan but ran the 800 on the track team with a PR of 1:58.6 on a cinder track. That's dirt with slag from the steel mills tossed over it for those who have never heard of a cinder track. A tour of duty in Vietnam with the 187th infantry of the 101st airborne pretty much ended any hopes for competitive running outside the occasional road race.

Began coaching track and cross country in 1981 at Zephyrhills High School with the following honors:

*8 time conference coach of the year
*8 time St. Pete Times coach of the year
*8 time Tampa Tribune coach of the year

I also coached at Pasco High School and St. Leo University.

Coached several conference, district, and regional championship teams with one state runner-up cross-country team in 1984.

Studied sprint techinque and training under Remi Korchemny (Former Soviet national team coach) at the Olympic training center in Lake Placid New York in 1983.

Received my Level II track and field coaching certification in 1988 with an emphasis on distance at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and national certification by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 1990.

Retired from coaching 1995 before being asked to come out of retirement in 2003 to rebuild the track program at ZHS.
