I made the trip to Calvary Christian in Clearwater today to finally get a first hand look at the wonderful new $4 Million track facility that I had heard so much about. We at flrunners.com, in association with FLYRA (Florida Youth Running Association), are going to be hosting this year's Middle School State Championship there on May 5, 2012.

While I had high expectations going in, I must say that I was blown away by this place. It is absolutely immaculate, first class everything, and the attention to detail in planning this place was just superb. What a gem to this school and this community! And the track community at large!

Coach Greg Thiel talks below about it and gives you a first hand look.

We also laid down all the plans to set this bad boy in motion. Included in those plans are a professional grade live webcast of the event. It will include five wireless cameras and professional production with graphics and even slow motion instant replays. The field events as well as the track events should get pleny of love. That webcast will be simulcast on the large HD jumbotron that has a stunning picture. It is tied in with the FinishLynx timing system to throw instant results up to the big screen (and webcast) along with the video.

The sound system there is equally as amazing. The lighting is a photographer's dream (even though we won't be there at night anyway). The astroturf is state of the art. The rubberized track is heavenly. Parking is plentiful. Hotels are close by (one within walking distance). Pressbox is spacious. Restroom stalls are relatively plentiful. Seating is more than ample for our event, with standing room all around the track. Concessions stand is great. Plenty of room for vendors and t-shirts.

I mean... wow! You guys are in for a treat! While I will be organizing the meet beforehand, the day of the meet I will be passing the baton over to the capable hands of former USF head coach and currently Calvary Christian AD Greg Thiel and his staff. We could still definitely use volunteers and meet officials though.
