Lake Mary Summertime Meet: Jenny Barringer Interview

Jason: Nice run in the park today?

Jenny: *laughs* Yeah! It was fun! It was really good. I love the Jamboree. We always kick off our season with the Jamboree.

Jason: How did your summer go? Did you do any camps?

Jenny: Actually I went to the FSU camp, and I got a chance to run with Laura Bowerman for a week, and that was amazing . She is so awesome. I love Laura Boweman. It was a change to get a chance to run with a girl at my pace. And we really had a great time.

Jason: What did you think about her 17:05?

Jenny: I totally believe that she is (capable of that), she is a phenomonal runner. Whether the time is (exactly) right or not... I'm kind of disappointed in Florida. I wish that we would support her more, instead of arguing about her time. Whether it is (totally accurate) or not... she did a phenomonal job.

Jason: Is there a rivalry at all between you too?

Jenny: Of course there's a little bit because we both run competitively. But we're both state champions in two different (classifications) so we relate a lot. And we just get along really well—I hung out with the King High School team a lot.

Jason: Where will you be next week?

Jenny: Next week... don't ask me! I have no idea! I think... I don't know, ask my coach! We have a schedule on my refridgerator but I don't really look at it. I pretty much just show up and get on the bus.

Jason: Any races you are really getting keyed up for this season?

Jenny: The Florida Runners dot com race is going to be a real competitive race, and we're looking to do well there. Laura is going to be there and I'm really looking forward to running with her. And especially since she's run 17:05, we'll get out there and see what we can do together. So I'm (excited) about that one. And we're also going up to the Great American. (Both varsity) teams are going up there, so I'm really excited about that. We're going to have a good time!

Jason: What are you hoping for this fall?

Jenny: Obviouslly to PR and do better. I'd love to do a repeat (win another state title) but instead of totally pressuring myself this year, I'm just going to continue to run and have fun. Just enjoy what I do!
