Scouting Report: Shorecrest Prep Girls

The ladies of Shorecrest Prep cross country are back in 2013, and looking for a podium finish, after just missing out in third in 2012. The Chargers return all seven of their runners from the state meet. At the helm, is third place finisher Alex Eaton. Eaton looks to once again be one of the top runners in 1A along with Julie Wollrath and Sarah Candiano. She will be flanked by fresman Olivia Rovin who placed 16th last year as an eighth grader. Rounding out the top five are sophomore Kai Greelees, senior Savannah Broome and sophomore Peninah Benjamin. A duo of youngsters add to a strong core of runners for Shorecrest Prep. Sixth grader Sophia Vesely is earning high praise from Coach Amy Raab as well as senior leader Alex Eaton. Raab also added that they have an incredibly strong 7th grader waiting in the wings who is one of the states' top triathletes.

Oak Hall looks to be a lock for the 1A team championship, so who will take second? According to our preseason rankings, The Chargers hold a five point lead over Providence. The squad is very solid 1-4, but the 4-5 gap is 1:08 bringing their 1-5 split to 3:14.13. Only two other teams in the top ten have a slower time. Shorecrest Prep has the balance of youth and experience to make the podium in 2013, but it's going to be a battle.

"These kids are amazing. We really just show up. They are so motivated and really bring out the best in each other. its not too often that you get a group that works this well together. We can't wait to see what the season brings. Our goals are just to stay healthy, run our best, and continue the tradition of loving cross country that exists at SPS."
