Spaulding Makes Switch To St. Thomas Aquinas

The rich keep getting richer. One of the top sprinters in the state, Diamond Spaulding of Plantation American Heritage has told flrunners.com that she is enrolled at St. Thomas Aquinas for the 2013-2014 school year, and will run track for the Raiders in the spring. Spaulding who is going into her junior year is the second high profile runner to leave American Heritage after Daesha Rogers left for Miami Jackson earlier in the month. When asked whether the recent shake up at the school had anything to do with her moving, she says St. Thomas was just a better fit for her at this time.

She joins a very talented sprint corp under Coach Alex Armenteros. Krystal Sparling looked like one of the favorites to take the 100 and 200 titles after the graduation of Kali Davis-White. Khalifa St. Fort was a top five finisher in both events last year as a freshman and Kendal Ellis is one of the best 200/400 meter runners in the state. Add in Spaulding who finished second in the 100 and won the 200, and that is a lethal lineup. Spaulding says she hasn't started practicing with the girls yet, but is great friends with most of them, and is looking forward to her new team.

"I've been good friends with most of these girls for quite some time now. As far as my feelings on going from one powerhouse program to another we will have to wait for the season to speak on that. I am excited going into my junior year with another great track program and my goals are to become the 4a state champion and assist my new team in any way I can."
