Newsome Wolves Invitational Recap

Things got a little muddy at the Newsome Wolves Invitational, with many runners finishing with chipped-shoes in hand on Saturday in Lithia. The two loop course was great for spectators, as it wound around the campus sports fields.

The North Port girls mounted a surprisingly strong challenge to the powerhouse Plant High, but the 1-2 finish by Plant's Baily Sullivan (19:38) and Anna Montgomery (19:42) was too much to handle. Plant came out victorious 100-113 in the Girls Elite race.

Sarasota Riverview's duo of Blake Riley and Warran Grajalez answered with a 1-2 punch of their own, beating out Tim O'Loughlin of Tampa Jesuit in 16:51, 16:54, and 16:56, respectively. That propelled Riverview to a 63-88 victory over McKeel Academy with a 17:30 team average in the Boys Elite race.

The Manatee girls dominated the Varsity Open race with a mere 31 points over second place Largo's 112. And Durant's boys edged out Chamberlain 81-87 in the Varsity Open Boys race.
