
The 2013 track season for Jenny Simpson could not have gone any better. It didn’t seem to start out like that. After the 2012 London Olympics where she finished 12th and last in the 1500m semi-finals, Simpson learned that her training group in Colorado Springs would dissolve because of relocations of many in her group. As a result, she reunited with former college coaches Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs in December 2012 and eventually returned back to Boulder a week before the USTAF Championships in June.
This new stint with Wetmore and Burroughs seemed the right fit for this period of Simpson’s career. For the first time, her sights were set on winning a medal in the 1500m. And for the first time, she would have Wetmore and Burroughs gear her training towards the 1500m, an event which would capitalize on her fleeting speed- a fact that was “honestly” conveyed to Simpson by her coaches.
