
Last year, Daesha Rogers and Julia Montgomery went back and forth all season. Rogers beat Montgomery at regionals and Montgomery went onto win state. Fast forward to 2013, and Rogers has transferred to Miami Jackson, but has been hot as of late winning her second regional trophy. Can Montgomery repeat as state champion? One thing in her favor will be teammate Tsion Yared pushing her. Yared, only a SIXTH grader, might be hard to find weaving her way in and out of traffic on the cross country course, but after an 11th place finish at Pre-State people know her name. Her mom came up to me before the meet and said hey watch out for my daughter. She was right. Yared recently ran at the FLYRA Middle School State Championship where she placed second. Will she have enough in the tank? Then there is Mackenzie Wilson. She runs for Bolles, the defending state champions, and is the reigning individual runner-up.
