Maclay sophomore Tamani Wilson (pictured above in black) and St. Thomas Aquinas senior Krysten Golden headed north to Tarheel State this weekend for the NCRunners Elite Holiday Invitational. It was a chance for the Floridians to test their skills on an indoor track and against some out of state competition.
Golden, who is under the radar on one of the premier programs in the state, competed in both the 55 and 60 meter dash. In her first race of the day, the 55, she clocked a time of 7.32, second only behind Wakefield senior Ama-Selina Tchume. In the 60, Golden found herself with a rough start, finishing in fourth with a time of 7.87. She plans on attending the FSU Camp this weekend and then preparing for the Jimmy Carnes Indoor meet at the end of January.
Wilson, the state champion in the 200 meter dash as a freshman, and third place finisher in the 400 meter, was up for the competition, but got beat out by hundredths of a second. Layla White of Cary crossed the line in 57.29 with Wilson right behidn her in 57.37.
Last year, American Heritage star Deja Parrish won the 400 meter race while Stefanie Kurgatt (now a freshman at Georgetown) was fourth in the Invitational Mile.
