State's Top Hurdler Daeshon Gordon Commits To Powerhouse LSU

Daeshon Gordon is not only one of the best hurdlers in the state but her times in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles rank her in the top ten nationally as well. Gordon spent the past three seasons at Boyd Anderson, but has transferred to Northeast High School for her senior season. A two-time state champion as an individual and member of Boyd Anderson's 2012 state championship team, Gordon has decided to continue her running career at LSU.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

Going into the recruiting process I knew I  was going into the start of a new beginning. After my first visit to University of Tennessee my new beginning became surreal. My main focus when on my visits were areas of academic support and a comfortable fit personally and athletically. My parents asked me about each trip and differences between the campus, the team, and practice on a basis to stay updated.

Where else did you consider?

Other Universities I considered for my official visits were the University of Tennessee, University of Central Florida, Clemson, and the University of Miami.

Why in the end did you choose LSU?

In the end whichever University I chose I know I would be stable academically and I feel that by choosing LSU I am confident that there is where I want to be. The coaches and I has had great communication through the recruiting process and the campus is beautiful.

What was your relationship with the coaching staff and team like?

Coach Debbie Paris is a LSU alumnus herself, so I like having a reminder that my coach has been in my footsteps already. When on my visit, I got the vibe that the team maintains a good team relationship. The girls were genuine to me and when spending time with my host and the team I was knew I could relate on the track.

What kind of runner are they getting in Daeshon Gordon?

I am the type of girl when I set a goal time I strive for it and achieve it. I know what I bring to the team and my motivations don’t recede from success. I’m coachable, I like to ask questions to know and learn the correct way, and I know I am capable of giving more than I have shown already.

What are your goals and what are you looking forward to most about running for the Tigers?

Knowing that the Tigers have a championship name in track and field, I look forward to that type of training and overall experience. I’m looking forward to the exposure and competing in places I’ve never been in coherence with my times dropping.
