And so it begins-a week of anticipation that will culminate in 10 athletes from four different regions being sent to the sunny San Diego, CA for the granddaddy of them all, the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships. And who wouldn't want to go? The weekend is set to backdrop of the storied Hotel Del Coronado( Marilyn Monroe's "Some Like it Hot") and Balboa Park which has seen so many great high schoolers clash to earn bragging rights as the nation's top high school athlete.
Florida's history in the meet stems from the very beginning. Fresh off a stunning defeat of Basil Magee of Largo at the 1979 FHSAA 4A State Championships, Keith Brantly of Winter Haven finished second to Dwight Stephens of T.C.
