In Her Own Words: Sinclaire Johnson - The Camaraderie Of The Sport

As we head into the final few days before the state meet, the talk usually centers on the competition. What will it take to win? Who will beat who? Who is better? But throughout this entire season, I've witnessed the true camaraderie of the sport. Just this past year I've experienced quite a few moments that have made me smile and have made me glad I run track and cross country.

I always try to congratulate my competitors and receiving congratulations from opposing team members and good luck wishes from both girl and boy athletes I've never met before is always appreciated.

Hearing words of encouragement from other coaches at meets is a great show of sportsmanship and respect. There are so many wonderful coaches in Florida high school track and cross country.

I've even had parents from other schools say kind words and compliment me and that too is very special to me.

Finally, all the friends and people I've met at meets and running camps this past year have made this journey to the last meet of the year so enjoyable.

We improve by driving each other. The energy you put into the sport not only helps you, but those around you. I'm forever thankful to be part of a community where you are supported regardless of the name on your uniform.

Best of luck to everyone competing this Friday/Saturday!
