The 2014-2015 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.
What was your most memorable race/moment?
My most memorable track race was the first time that I broke 5 minutes in the 1600. It was one of three PR's that I got at that meet. I also got a PR in long jump and the 800 at that meet too. It was at the conference meet at Lake Brantley. My most memorable cross country race was the conference meet at Hagerty this year. I was injured and had not been able to practice but went to the meet and came within four seconds of my PR. It was great knowing that even after such a bad injury (shin splints) I was able to come out and compete.
Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition in my running career was my teammates. We all would push each other to be our best.
What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was being captain of cross country and track my senior year and surpassing my goal of a sub 5 mile.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would have started running before my junior year and ran all four years instead of two.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was shin splints. It got to the point where I struggled to walk and I would try to cross train so when I went to meets I could still be a competitor.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my teammates and coaches the most.
What advice you would give to younger athletes?
I would tell younger runners to make sure they do off season conditioning so that they come into the season in decent shape. I would also tell them to watch what they eat because your diet effects how you run.
What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My cross country coach has taught me that with hard work you will see results. I am very thankful that he picked me as one of his captains for this year. He also taught me that working as a team is extremely important even though running can be an individual sport. My track coach has taught me that no matter how you did in a race she will always find a positive about how you ran.
What are your college plans?
I am attending The University of Central Florida.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I would like to thank my coaches again for putting the time in to help develop me as a runner, my teammates for being so supportive, and everyone else who supported me at meets.
