You would think after a hard 3200m effort the day before and a near personal best of 10:35.69, South Forsyth (GA) senior Savannah Carnahan would be a little bit tired. But, there she was Friday night, streaking to the front of the pack from the gun to take the lead at 400m in 70 seconds.
"My plan was to go out in 1:10 and then seeing if I could get close 2:20 overall," said a delighted Carnahan who came through the 800 meter in 2:24 after a 74 second lap.
Dillard's Brittany Gill and Lake Brantley's Sinclair Johnson were the only ones who could keep up with the strong pace through the second lap. But after another lap of 73.4, Carnahan was on her own as Gill and Johnson were gapped.
Milton's (GA) Riley Burr, Carnahan's future college teammate, was caught behind the others and by the backstretch of the third lap used a big surge to go past Gill and Johnson. But the damage was done.
