4A REGION 1
Mandarin has to be the favorite going into the season, but it doesn't take much imagination to believe that by the end of the season Winter Park will be the clear favorite going into the state meet. Coach Hill's Wildcats always find a way to get into form when it counts and have been one of the most dominant teams over the last decade.
With that said up and coming Mandarin has become a force and built a powerful program in just a short period of time. Eduardo Garcia will lead his troops this year, as the region's individual favorite as well.
Bartram Trail, Colonial, or Lyman could each be right in the thick of things if they can just find a little more depth in the 3-5 positions. This will be a good one!

4A REGION 2
Defending 4A State Champion Brian Atkinson will be in the driver's seat to repeat as state champion this year. And he leads this Melbourne team that has the potential to be one of the best teams from Florida of this decade. They will be looking for a fifth man to guarantee victory.
Waiting in the wings for Melbourne to slip up is a very potent Sarasota squad. Jon Lanning is the ace at the front of this fantastic 5-pack, which is one of the bests in the state. But they are praying for good health at this point, with a big leap back to number six. Let's hope they don't need it. *Update* After writing this article it was pointed out that two "brothers" actually weren't brothers... same person going by first name in one race and middle name in another. Meaning the Sarasota five pack is no more. They are still in a good position to be runner-up in the region, but will be in desperate need of a fifth man to have ANY shot at Melbourne. Sorry for the confusion and thanks to the informants for tipping us off so we could merge the two athlete records!
After the top two, it's really a toss up and none are likely to be able to challenge Melbourne or Sarasota. Sickles features the Wehunts which should see a lot of face time toward the front of the pack.
Individually, look out for John Mitchell who had a fantastic track season and really came out of no where in the mile. He is still new to the sport and if he can translate that track speed into the off road, look out!

What is there to say about this district? Not really a whole lot on the team front. Park Vista has by far the best depth here--ranked 10th overall in the 4A in the FACA preason rankings. They are probably not going to be challenged unless Stoneman Douglas really steps it up 2-4 positions and comes up with a number five.
There are several strong individuals here Ryan Pickering (Leonard), Brad Robeson (Douglas), and Kevin Bonilla (Cypress Bay).

4A REGION 4
Columbus is going to run away with this one. They are a mile ahead right now and their depth is amazing. Last year they showed some signs of absolute greatness and then toward the end of the season fizzled out. Their number nine man would be most good team's number three. DEPTH!
They are ranked #2 in the FACA 4A Preason Poll, but I believe that their 10 second split between their 2 and 5 men is going to be really tough on Melbourne at the state meet. Armando Del Valle provides the anchor they need to answer Atkinson and should score only two points at state.
Ferguson and Hialeah-Miami Lakes seemingly lack the 4 and 5 depth to compete with Columbus, but hey you never know especially with that wacky Coach Ryan Raposo guy.
Those two teams though should make a very interesting battle for that second seed in the region. They pretty much answer each other blow for blow, with Ferguson having the edge at 1-3-4 and HML getting one up at 2-5.
