Tally Takeover: Nation's #1 Sprinter Katia Seymour Chooses FSU, Teammate Simmons FAMU

Katia Seymour

One of the nation's most sought after sprinters Katia Seymour definitely had a lot to think about when it came down to making her collegiate choice. Three hours before her signing ceremony, Seymour had dwindled her choices down to in-state Florida and FSU with the Seminoles grabbing her signature when all was said and done.

"It was a difficult decision because I know at UF they have a awesome coach and he gets people to where they need to be, but FSU I loved it there. It felt like I was already a part of the school and I didn't have that strong of a vibe at UF. It was great at UF, but God said that's not where wants me to be."

The Noles' pick up the top ranked 100m sprinter in the country with her 11.26 PR from the Great Southwest Classic and 4th in the senior class in the 200m with a PR of 23.26. Seymour swept the sprints at the 2A state meet winning the 100, 200 and anchoring her team to victory in the 4x100m relay. She was the Adidas Boost Boston Games 100m runner-up and ended her season with AAU Club Nationals and AAU Junior Olympics championships in the 100m dash. She was AAU Club Nationals Champion in the 200 and runner up at the AAU Junior Olympics.

Seymour says she has even loftier goals for 2017.

"Last season was great, but it was just the beginning. I'm going even harder and I'm coming even stronger. Nothing's going to change, but my PR and I'm looking for a 23 flat in the 200."
