Tally Takeover: Nation's #1 Sprinter Katia Seymour Chooses FSU, Teammate Simmons FAMU

Steven Simmons

Palatka senior Steven Simmons called the recruiting process "scary" because of the lack of attention he received. FAMU, however, stuck with the sprinter who owns personal bests of 10.54 in the 100m dash and 21.69 in the 200.

Simmons says his GPA wasn't the best, but when other schools came and left, the Rattlers didn't give up hope, and that made a major impact.

After finishing fourth in both the 100 and 200 at the 2A state meet last season, Simmons has high hopes for 2017 and is thankful to all those who helped him thus far including his uncle.

"This year I'm going 10.2 and 20.8 and I'm shooting for 47.5. One person I'd really like to thank is my Uncle Jarvis for helping me to get where I'm at today. He's really been the one that has pushed me and worked with me since I started running running track."

By The Numbers (Personal Bests):
  • 55m (in) - 6.56
  • 60m (in) - 7.11
  • 100m - 10.54
  • 200m - 21.69
  • 400m - 48.97
