TBT: US#1, 2, 3 400m Dash By Ford, Johnson, Woodside At Texas A&M Indoor Meet

They say don't mess with Texas, but three Florida speedsters came into the Lonestar State and came away with the top three indoor 400m times in the country. Going head to head in the second heat of the finals was Northeast sophomore Jan'Taijah Ford and Southridge senior Kayla Johnson, a University of Miami signee.

The pair quickly jumped to the front of the pack, and it was Johnson who had a slight edge coming through the first 200 meters. On her heels with 100m left, Ford, the 3A state champion in 2016, zoomed past her and held on to win in a US#1 time of 55.38. Johnson, who is also one of the top 800m runners in the nation, was second in a US#2 time of 55.51.

Not to be outdone by her Northeast teammate and South Florida counterpart, junior Daneisha Woodside won the next section of the 400m finals in the third fastest time of the day and US#3 mark of 55.67. Coach Damion Thomas says both his girls ran great races today.

"We felt they were very patient and ran their own races. The times they ran today are just a testament of the work they put in during fall conditioning. It is still early, but the Florida girls are looking good in the 400 indoor this year so far."

Congratulations to Jan'Taijah, Daneesha, and Kayla on their nationally ranked marks. Can't wait to see what the rest of the indoor season brings as well as what we can look forward to this outdoor season.
