We're just about halfway through the 2008 season and after many major invitationals the past couple of weeks, its time to see what our FACA Pollsters think of each of our State Classifications. So let's create a few rivalries just a few days away from the Pre-State meet shall we...

The performances at Fl Runners were indeed valiant as we saw some great efforts and close battles. The

4) Pk Yonge – Slides into this spot with a solid Fl Runners performance. This team was 12 pts behind Lakeland Christian at Fl. Runners with an average 1-5 split of 2:57. The placed 4th in the Invitational at Great American The battle for third is brewing.
5) Keswick Christian – Without a front runner (top 20 individual), this team’s strength lies in their average 1-5 split of 1:40. They convincingly won the Viking Invitational and took 3rd at Disney. The race for the No. 3 spot is a tight one. They will also be at
6) Maclay – While most were grinding it out at Fl Runners or Disney, it looks like they worked on “team” at the Rams Invitational. Their average 1-5 split is 5:09 (I won’t count their Oct. 4th split as it will skew reality). Their front runners keep them in this spot, but the 7th place team is knocking on their door. They’ll be at

8) Trinity Prep – This team will also compete at

10) Northside Christian – Won the Robinson Invitational and will be at the
11) Shorecrest Prep – Has the best average 1-5 split of :37, but no front runners. This pack is waiting for an opportunity to crack into the top 10.
John Carroll – Where has this team been? All season long, they have run a different set of 7 girls than the ones who ran at Disney. They were two points behind Shorecrest Prep with a 1-5 split of 2:54. Is this the same John Carroll team or am I looking at an out-of-state John Carroll (Tauber, McAdorey, Vinton, Battaglia, Hudak)?

So now we’re 4 crazy weeks into the season and we have a huge drop in athlete’s times and team averages thanks to Flrunners, Bale-N-Trail and the Disney Classic. I don’t anticipate there to be much of a shake-up in most of the rankings, and we should all have our eyes set on the Pre-State meet this weekend. So here we go!
Team Rankings:
(Rank. (Previous Rank) Team, Region- Commentary)
1. (1) Winter Park, 1- Still the team to beat, they were 2nd in the Flrunners ROC edging Lourdes by 4 and with my current rankings; they’re only ahead by 3 points. If they’re duking it out with Lourdes, might BT sneak up on both of them?
2. (3) Our Lady of Lourdes, 4- Back at the medal level, Lourdes came to compete at the ROC but missed their mark by a handful of points against WP. They’ve shown they’re ready to fight with the big dogs and that they can easily use Miami meets as a stepping stone for the big show. Congrats on another Youth Fair ladies.
3. (2) Bartram Trail, 1- BT has been laying low the last week or so, and I think that trend will continue this upcoming weekend as well. The question is: Will sitting out the biggest meets of the year be an advantage? Or will it hurt their 4-5 when it comes to trying to catch the two packs ahead of them? Although if the hands down best 1-2-3 trio all go top 10 at State, then who knows what’ll happen!
4. (4) Melbourne, 2- Still riding the coattails of the teams above, Melbourne is still the solid 4th place team. They have three in the top 25, and finished in a strong 3rd at the Bale-N-Trail last week.
--------------------
5. (7) Vero Beach, 2- They were 9th in the ROC and split a 20:26 team average. Just solid enough to move them up a couple of spots, but don’t think the 3-4 teams behind them can’t beat them on any given day. This is a very coveted 5th slot right now.
6. (NR) Winter Springs, 1- I love how Region 1 teams go from top ranked, to boxed out, and then back to the top. Previously ranked 5th in the state, WS has a strong showing at the Bale-N-trail finishing in 7th with a 20:37 team average; 18 seconds below rival Region 1 team: Mandarin.
7. (T-5) Niceville, 1- The Niceville girls decided to stay up North win the Wildcat Invite in strong fashion and I’ll make the assumption that this course was slightly slower than Flrunners9. This is why I’ll take that 21:07 average with a grain of salt and slide them in to 7th place.
8. (NR) Timber Creek, 1- They won the Flrunners9 Invite and earned a spot back in the rankings, but a 20:44 team average might not be strong enough to solidify their spot in Region 1. Keep at it TC because now the bulls eye is back on you all!
(I’m assuming they were not at full strength for the Disney Classic.)
9. (8) Mandarin, 1- 8th at the Bale-N-Trail, they ran a 20:55 behind a strong WS team. Now 6th in their Region, they need to keep a look out for Olympia, Boone, Spruce Creek, Lyman, Dr. Phillips, etc. as does Timber Creek.
10. (10) Cypress Bay, 3- I would love to move this strong young CB team up, but the strength of Region 1 is still too strong. A 10-15 second drop in 2-5 average would be needed to catch Mandarin or Timber Creek. Mariana Lucena is legit, but remember that she it an outlier when it comes to team average and scoring.
--------------------
11. (11) Sickles, 2- Ran a heck of a race at the Flrunner9 Invite finishing 6th overall with a team average of 21:26. Unfortunately top 10 is about a 30 second team average drop away.
12. (12) Sarasota Riverview, 2- Finished 11th @ Bale-N-Trail, avg. of 21:30.
13. (16) Spanish River, 3- Finished 12th @ Flrunners9 Invite, avg. of 21:35.
14. (21) Ferguson, 4- Finished 13th @ Flrunners9 Invite, avg. of 21:39. Biggest jump (7 spots) in the rankings; Must stay healthy and confident to stay top 15.
15. (13) Gaither, 2- Finished 2nd @ Flrunners9 Large Div., avg. of 21:47.
16. (15) Wellington, 3- Finished 15th @ Flrunners ROC, avg. of 21:36 (big outlier).
--------------------
T-17. (NR) Osceola Kissimmee / (17) Palm Harbor University, 2- I believe this will be a close race for the 6th slot in Region 2. Osceola ran 22:18 at Disney, but PHU has traditionally been a tough team. Need to see some head-to-head results here.
18. (20) Sunset, 4- Finished 5th @ Flrunners9 Large Div., avg. of 22:19.
19. (14) Douglas, 3- No races since Spanish River, but Region 3 is pretty weak.
--------------------
20. (18) Palm Beach Central, 3- No races since South Fork, same as above.
21. (19) Coral Springs, 3- No races since South Fork, same as above.
--------------------
22. (22) Coral Reef, 4- Finished 8th @ Flrunners9 Open Div., team avg. 22:37.
23. (23) Killian, 4- Youth Fair team avg. was 23:35.
24. (24) Southridge, 4- Youth Fair team avg. was 23:58.
Upcoming Teams: (NR) South Dade, 4; (NR) Braddock, 4
Slipping Teams: Regions 2-4 stayed the same.
Boxed Out (Region 1): (T-5) Lyman, (T-9) Dr. Phillips, (T-9) Spruce Creek
[Side note: All three of these teams are capable of being a top 12 team.]
