Top 5 averages from most recent meets are in parentheses. Two schools from down south come out from under the flrunners radar and get a ranking. Prestate answered some questions, but many more questions came up once county championships began due to inconsistencies among teams and courses. I truly think after the 5th position any team could finish 3 places above or below their rank. I hope all teams are at full strength at the district meets! It will help keep this number-conscientious pollster happy!

Team Rankings:

The journey to states starts this weekend with the district races.  Below is the girls 3 A “ranked” district by district breakdown of the 50 plus best teams and individuals to watch out for this week.  Good luck and great racing this weekend ladies!

Ranked Teams  / Ranked Individuals

Region 1 District 1
It is almost a given number 1 state ranked Chiles wins this district along with individual honors.  The most interesting teams to watch will be the battle of the runner-ups between Ft Walton, Leon, and Pine Forest. Freshman Lily Williams of Chiles  should lead a very strong field of individual runners including team mates Carly Thomas, Kaia Hampton, Kendall Andrews, and Jodie McGuff.  Others to keep an eye on are Crystal Wacob of Pine Forest and Lauren Day of Crestview.

Chiles                      Williams, Lily    Chiles
Fort Walton Bch    Thomas, Carly    Chiles
Leon                       Hampton, Kaia   Chiles
Pine Forest             Wacob, Crystal   Pine Forest
Navarre                   Day, Lauren       Crestview
Pensacola Wash      Andrews, Kendall Chiles
Crestview               McGuff, Jodie    Chiles
Choctawhatchee    Stodghill, Claire  Leon
Pace                       Gallagher, Erin    Fort Walton Beach
                               Lott, Daronisha   Pine Forest
                               Scanlan, Iolani    Fort Walton Beach

 Region 1 District 2
Ridgeview should top the field in the smallest 3 A district.  Returning state teams Fleming Island and Nease should be favored to move forward with teams such as Ed White, Gainesville and Columbia fighting for the last 3 spots.  Individually expect to see Savannah Leitner of Fleming Island to dual it out with Kayla Vinson of Ridgeview.

Ridgeview                Leitner, Savannah      Fleming Island
Fleming Island         Vinson, Kayla            Ridgeview
Nease High              Metzgar, Chelsea       Fleming Island
Ed White                  Poidevant, Lauren     Ridgeview
Gainesville
Columbia

Region 2 District 3
Wharton’s is expected to win the district 3 with the real race to keep an eye on between Wharton’s
freshman Alyssa Franks and Vanguards Tori Larson.  Tori has been runner up at states these past few years. Brooksville and Springstead are the schools that could surprise in this district to move on.

Wharton                  Franks, Alyssa             Wharton
Vanguard                Lawson, Tori               Ocala Vanguard
Land O Lakes         Brandt, Alyssa            Land O Lakes
South Lake             Blaney, Anne-mari      Belleview
Brooksville             Bailey, Erin                 Wharton HS
Springstead            Carney, Kali                 South Lake
Gulf High

Region 2 District 4
Top ranked Newsome may be in for a slugfest to win the team title over Plant for the team title followed by Lake Region.  After these 3 teams the door is wide open for team like King, George Jenkins, and Kathleento move on.  Freshman Sydney Devore of Lake region appears to be the favorite individual of the field.

Newsome                  Devore, Sydney    Lake Region
Plant                          Kennedy, Michaela  HB Plant HS
Lake Region              Webster, Rebecca  Newsome High School
King                           Goodwin, Elizabeth  HB Plant HS
George Jenkins          White, Hilary            King HS
Kathleen

Region 3 District 5
This is a tough district to follow.  Lakewood Ranch has been high on my radar all year and are the favorites for the team title but after that the order of the finish is a tough guess.  Seminole used to dominate this district but has faltered with programs like Manatee and Northeast rising up to fill the void.  Individually look for Kailand Cosgrove of Tarpon Springs, Devin McDermott of Lakewood Ranch, Sara Allen of Boca Ciega and Katie Homme of Seminole to tough it out for the individual title.

Lakewood Ranch        McDermott, Devin    Lakewood Ranch
Seminole                     Homme, Katie          Seminole HS
Northeast                    Cosgrove, Kailand    Tarpon Springs
Manatee (Brade)         Allen, Sara                Boca Ciega
Boca Ciega                  McKinnis, Jessica      Palmetto
Osceola (Seminole)     Snyder, Elyse            Northeast
                                     Irwin, Alexis            Osceola HS

Region 3 District 6
Ft Myers should be the cream of the crop in this district.  Expect Cypress Lake and Charlotte to duke it out for the runner up honors.  A host of other good programs will be fighting it out for the last 3 spots.  Ft Myers Katie Russo is favored to repeat for the district crown leading a strong field consisting of Kaitlyn Martin from Cypress, Darlene Hanlon of Baker and Amber Imm of Lely.

Fort Myers               Russo, Katie   Fort Myers
Cypress Lake Hs     Martin, Kaitlyn Cypress Lake
Charlotte                  Hanlon, Darlene  Ida S. Baker
Ida Baker                 Imm, Amber   Lely HS
Venice                     Rosario, Wally  North Fort Myers
North Ft Myers        Gourdett, Juliette Cypress Lake
Mariner                    LaBarbera, Emilly  Mariner
Port Charlotte

Region 4 District 7
Satellite should cruise to another district 7 crown followed by Rockledge.  Look for South Fork and Titusville to move on to regions with returning state teams Oak Ridge and Martin County holding off Okeechobee and Seabreeze for the final 2 spots.  Individually look to see Juliana Stern and  teammate Ashley Shiver of Satellite to cruise home as the individual champions.

Satellite                   Stern, Juliana  Satellite
Rockledge               Shiver, Ashley Satellite
South Fork               Ardila, Sara Lake Howell
Titusville                  Huff, Teresa  Titusville
Martin County         Lusk, Danielle  Rockledge
Oak Ridge               Penido, Isabella Okeechobee
Okeechobee             Hibbard, Mollie  Satellite
Seabreeze

Region 4 District 8
Last years returning district champion St Thomas is favored to win district 8.  After St Thomas West Boca and Boca Raton appears to be the best bets to move on to Region 4.  Nicole Suarez of St Thomas is favored over Isabelle Amaro of Pembroke Pines for the individual honors.

St Thomas Aq         Suarez, Nicole         St. Thomas
West Boca              Amaro, Isabelle       Pembroke Pines
Boca Raton            McDulin, Patterson Dwyer
Dwyer                    Payne, Alex            St. Thomas A

It’s finally here; the state series that everyone always highly anticipates. It’s been a bit of a fairytale season, as I’ve said before, and I’ll be glad to see some head-to-head championship results that can help me better piece together the state rankings. So here are your District rankings, remember that they’re just for fun and good luck out there coaches and ladies!
(Note: Districts with 15+ team will have 8 qualifiers, 14- will have only 6.)

Region 1 comments: Obviously the hardest Region in the state; the Region of Death is the same this year as any other. Look from strong performances from the top 6-7 teams in District 1 and the top 4-5 teams in District 2. Some of these teams need to peak at Region to try and make it to Little Everglades. District 1 still holds its title as the most difficult in the state.
District 1 (18 schools):
1) Bartram Trail (Region rank: 2, State rank: 3)
2) Niceville (Region: 3, State: 5)
3) Lyman (Region: 4, State: 7)
4) Winter Springs (Region: 6, State: T-8)
5) Spruce Creek (Region: 7 = boxed out)
6) Mandarin
7) Hagerty
8) Flagler Palm Coast
X- Fletcher
District 2 (17 schools):
1) Winter Park (Region: 1, State: 1)
2) Dr. Phillips (Region: 5, State: T-8)
3) Timber Creek
4) Boone
5) Olympia
6) Cypress Creek
7) Eastridge
8) Wekiva
X- Lake Brantley

Region 2 comments: Melbourne and Vero Beach provide two top state level teams in District 3 while District 4 has more depth with their mid-teens teams. Apparently the trend with our regions is that the further south you go, the slower they get. Region 2 is the second strongest behind Region 1.
District 3 (10 schools):

Region 3 comments: District 5 holds Region 3 together as only Cypress Bay makes a difference when it comes to state qualifiers. Apparently there is a dark hole over Broward county and North Miami-Dade because Districts 6 and 7 and ridiculously poor when it comes right down to it.

Region 4 comments: All of your state qualifying teams will come from District 8. I’d be surprised if District 7 can even field 8 full teams to be honest. The 8th best team from District 8 is better than the first from District 7. The 2nd place slot for District 8 is a 3-way toss up between Southridge, Ferguson and Sunset. Good luck girls and race hard!
