Celebration High School had never hosted a cross country meet before Saturday's Storm Invitational. Mother nature thought she was participating in the event because about an hour before the start of the girl's race it started to pour down road. Those skies cleared just in time for the six team field to compete.
The story of the day were the Celebration boys. Instead of a lead cart setting the pace, it was a team of triathlon athletes biking their way through the course, which provided for an interesting twist. The Storm with a roster dominated by seniors relied on that experience up front. Cote Strike went out front early, but felt pressure on his heels from teammate Alejandro Uriostegui. Strike admitted afterwards he fell several times during the race, but was still able to get up, and finish first in 18:26.35 as the Storm dropped a perfect 15 point team score.
In the girl's race, sophomore Adriana Bahena of the host school, came out strong from the start, and led the first 1/4 mile all the way through the finish line. Bahena navigated the 3.1 mile course around the school in a time of 22:18.36 with her senior sister Alejandra Bahena right behind her in 22:56.31. Third place finisher Megan Rumbaugh of Faith Christian Academy came in over two minutes later at 25:09.00
