The Belen Jesuit boys, perhaps the best ever team in Florida, won the FHSAA 3A state title last weekend and race tomorrow in the NXR Southeast Regionals at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC. They are favored to win their second team title in a row. Last year they pulled off one of the most impressive Florida high school cross-country performances ever winning by a decisive 137-point margin only two days after winning the FHSAA 3A team title in Tallahassee. Led by Sophomore Marcelo Mantecon, the individual 3A winner, the team won their eighth straight and 16th overall FHSAA team title scoring a low 20 points. They had decisive out of state wins at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, AL and the Great American XC Festival in Cary, NC earlier this season. This year, the team has an average time of 15:11.04 and a 1-5 split of 42.80.
