Ana Wallace Records Third Highest Finish Ever By FL Girl At Foot Locker Nationals

Team Florida sent three female athletes to San Diego for the 2017 Foot Locker Nationals. Chiles senior Ana Wallace sat in the top ten for a majority of the race and crossed the line as the sixth fastest in the field with a time of 17:48.10. The mark was her sixth race under 18 minutes for the season.

Historically speaking, her time was fifth ever by a Floridian at Kinney/Foot Locker National Championships behind Christa Benton, Carmen Gardner, Jenny Simpson, and Ashley Brasovan. Only Simpson and Brasovan finished higher at the meet with Brasovan winning it all in 2007.

Alyssa Hendrix finished 8th at the Foot Locker South Regional to earn her first trip to sunny San Diego.  Of the forty athletes in the field, Hendrix was one of nine underclassmen. She surprised herself in a shining debut , an 18th place finish and time of 18:24.00. The Riverview standout was third for the South team and the fourth fastest freshmen/sophomore girl overall.

Hendrix's former high school teammate and training partner Bailey Hertenstein, an Indiana University signee, started the race and competed through one mile, before dropping out due to illness.
