An unusual chilly week in FL for March didn't put a damper on results, as the season continues to heat up. Just like on the fellas side, a few new names have made an appearance, as are a few familiar ones. Sydney Blackburn-The best discus thrower in FL was back to her winning ways as she won the discus at the CCA Eagles 5th Annual Invite. The sophomore from Highlands Christian HS threw 141-2 feet on her way to winning another discus competition, which should not come as a surprise as Blackburn is the 2017 AAU National Champion in the discus.
Shaneylix Davila- The senior from Poinciana HS absolutely dominated in the hurdles this weekend as she set the best times in the 100 and 300 hurdles at the Hawks on the Hill Invite. Davila won both hurdle events where she went 14.18 in the 100 Hurdles (FL #1 time) and then came back later to win the 300 Hurdles with a time of 43.67 (FL #4 time).
Tamari Davis- The Gainesville HS freshman essentially set the track on fire by picking up national wins in the 60m and 200m at New Balance Nationals Indoor in New York. She bested her 60m time in every single round heading into the final, going 7.40, 7.33 and then flourishing to the line in a freshman class record attempt of 7.25 seconds. Davis also set a freshman class record in the semifinals of her 200m, going 23.24 seconds.
Jatana Folston- The Junior from Cocoa HS also took her talents to NY as she participated and qualified for finals in the girls 400m. Folston finished in 7th place as she ran an impressive 54.81, which gave her the US #15 time in the indoor 400m.
Jan'taijah Ford- Ford led her Northeast HS (Oakland) teammates in the 400m at the 10th Annual Miramar Invitational. The junior speedster who already holds the US #1 and FL #1 time in the 400m continued her dominance as she recorded a 54.84 to lead the 1-2-3 finish of Northeast HS girls in the 400m.
Tytavia Hardy- It was a busy day for the senior out of Pensacola Booker T. Washington HS as Hardy won the triple hump, long jump, and high jump at the Aggie Invitational. Hardy had the 3rd best triple jump mark in FL (38-7.5), 2nd best long jump mark in FL (18-3.75), and the best high jump mark in FL this week (5-6). Tytavia also took 2nd in the 100 hurdles to finish off a marathon of a day for her.
LaSarah Hargrove- The junior from Gaither HS brought the speed at the highly anticipated Kowboy Invite. Hargrove won the 100 and the 200 as she went 12.00 and 24.52. Lasarah had the fastest 200m time of the week and the 2nd fastest time of the week in the 100m. Hargrove was the 2017 Runner-Up in the 100 and 200 at the 3A State Championship.
Ashley Klingenberg- If Hargrove brought the speed to the Kowboy Invite, Klingenberg brought the strength and stamina as she recorded the fastest 800m and 1600m of the week, on her way to winning both distance events. The Lake Brantley HS sophomore held off some studs from Chiles HS on her way to running 2:15.65 and 4:55.31.
Karen Lyvers- The senior from Lakewood Ranch HS set the FL #2 mark in the pole vault this weekend as she vaulted 11-9.75. Lyvers, is chasing Laine Roberts for the best pole vaulter in FL, had the best vault of the week in FL as she won the pole vault at the Charlotte Invitational.
Mahdere Yared- It was the younger Yared sister that took the win and the week best in the 3200, with a time of 11:04.74. The freshman from Pine Crest HS beat her sister Tsion to win the 3200m at the CCA Eagles 5th Annual Invite. Mahdere finished 4th in 2A at the 2017 FHSAA Cross Country Championships.
