Down To A Kick: Eudaly, Hendrix Battle in 4AR2 1600m

Watch the FHSAA State Finals LIVE on MileSplit

The girls 1600m final at the 4A Region 2 meet was one to watch this weekend.

With a few of the fastest distance runners in the classification going head to head, this race was a nice preview to what we can expect to come from the event at the FHSAA State Finals this week.

Riverview junior, Alyssa Hendrix, took the race out from the gun in a brisk 73 second lap with Plant freshman, Mary Ellen Eudaly, George Jenkins sophomore, Alicia Ruiz, and Newsome sophomore, Keleigh Scallon, right up with her in a pack.

These four ladies remained a tight pack going through the half mile in 2:29 after a strong 76 second lap.

As these ladies passed the line heading into the third lap, Hendrix, looked to make a move and Eudaly was not going to let her go without a fight to the finish.

Hendrix and Eudaly came through the 1200m at 3:43, running a 74 second third lap. Hendrix pushed the pace with Eudaly right behind. The race came down to a kick as both ladies battled down to the finish. Eudaly edged Hendrix out at the finish running a 70.2 last lap with Hendrix right behind in 70.80.

Eudaly finished her third race of the day with a win in a time of 4:53.70 after her 10:50.29 third place 3200m finish and 2:16 800m split to anchor Plant's 9:30.47 4x800m relay.

Hendrix finished her second race with a runner-up finish of 4:54.10 after a very effortless 10:38.12 3200m, clicking off nice even splits and pushing the pace from the gun.

Up Next: 4A State Finals

Both Hendrix and Eudaly will be ones to watch in the 4A girls 1600m and 3200m as the top ladies in each event for the classification. Rylee Pustilnik, Mya Bodrato, and Caroline Lehman have also gone sub 11 in the 3200m this season and will be amongst your leaders eyeing a state title. In the 1600m, Ashley Klingenberg and Jordan Shapiro join Pustilnik, Hendrix, and Eudaly in the sub-five club this season and will fight at the top in the four lap race.
