Xavier Carter and Walter Dix are playing a smashmouth game of ping pong: back and forth. Or maybe it's a game of limbo: pass after pass seeing who can go lower. No matter what you call it we are enjoying every second of it!
A month exactly after Dix took the 200 meter state record out of Carter's hands with a blazing solo 20.54 at districts, Cater took the crown back today. At the AAU State Qualifier at The First Academy in Orlando, Carter blew by the competition on his way to a fully automatic time of 20.49 to lower the state mark again.
One year ago Carter set the record for the first time going 20.69 at the state meet. Since then both Carter and Dix have broken that mark several times each.
Carter has qualified for the Olympic Trials B Standard in both the 200 and 400 meters--although his father has reportedly said he is done with the 400 meters for the season.
The time puts Carter currently #18 in the WORLD this season according to Tilastopaja Oy, a world reknowned subscription-based database of international elites. Carter is also currently sitting in 17th place on the world 400 meter list.
