FSU\'s Lancashire Among Top Athletes at World Juniors

Florida State freshman Tom Lancashire (Bolton, England/Turton) represented Great Britain in the 1500m run at the 10th IAAF World Junior Championships in Grosetto, Italy, held during the month of July.

During the semifinals, Lancashire finished third in his heat with a personal best time of 3:42.48 to qualify for the finals. In the final race, he finished sixth overall in 3:43.31, after running one of the fastest times in his competitive career. Lancashire was the first British athlete to cross the line and only one to make the event final.

During the 2003 cross country and 2004 track seasons, Lancashire emerged as one of the best mid-distance runners on the team. He helped the Seminole men's cross country team to its highest finish in conference history and the men's indoor track and field squad to its fourth consecutive conference championship. He broke the indoor mile run mark, running a 4:04.33 time to best the 25-year old time set by Cliff Cook in 1979. During the outdoor campaign, Lancashire added his name to the 1500m top ten performances running the third fastest time in school history (3:43.31).

The men's track and field program produced a successful season for first-year head coach Bob Braman. Under Braman, the Seminoles sent six individuals plus two relays to the national championships meet. Three Tribe members and the 4x100m relay earned All-American honors for the men's program for the 2004 season.
