flrunners.com will be on-site at 2021 Wickham Park Jamboree with race video, photo, and interview coverage!
We will be on-site for our first meet of the 2021 cross country in an annual pre-season event in the Wickham Jamboree on Saturday morning at Wickham Park in Melbourne, Florida. The boys' race will start at 7:30 AM followed by the girls' race at 8:00 AM.
Over 400 total runners are registered for the meet. The girls' field of 165 runners includes 8 athletes with sub 20 minute 5K credentials including the Jaszczak twins Paige Jaszczak and Riley Jaszczak of Titusville, Isabella Narvaez of Viera, Bella Del Busto of Calvary Christian, Claire Reburn of Foundation Academy, and Satellite duo of Kaylee Kraver and Braelyn Wahy.
Paige Jasczczak is the defending race champion from a year ago when the race was actually held at Satellite High with a 19:29 victory. She has actually run as fast as 18:50 for 5K dating back to the 2018 season, while last season was a top 15 finisher in the 2A and the Cape Conference runner-up. She is coming off a track season in which she ran PR's across the board in the 800 (2:28), 1600 (5:17), and 3200 (11:41).
Her twin sister Riley is going to try and go 1-2 in the race on Saturday with her after finishing 5th in the Wickham Jamboree and lifetime 5K best of 19 minutes. Riley also had a strong track season running a 1600 PR of 5:17 to finish 9th in the FHSAA 2A State Finals.
Viera boys are racing in the meet but holding out their top two runners in FL #2 ranked Michael Toppi and FL #12 ranked Robbie Naberhaus, so will not see them matching up with Satellite's best in FL #5 ranked Justin Wilson and Aidan Mason.
The fourth-place finisher in last year's 2A state race, Wilson ran his 15:02 PR at Wickham Park ironically last fall for his final race of the 2020 season. He will start his season on the same course for the 2021 season as the overwhelming favorite to win.
Mason is actually the top returnee from last year's Wickham Jamboree when he finished 10th place with a 16:42 effort. Mason finished the 2020 cross country season lowering his 5K time all the way down to 15:39 in a post-season race on the Wickham Park course.
Satellite could potentially sweep the top 3 places in the race with Dayton Law owning the third-fastest PR in the boys' field of 244 entries at 16:09 for 5K. Viera's top runner entered and projected #3 in Cameron Raney (16:17 5K) should challenge Law to break up the Satellite trio as well as sub 4:20 miler John Carbone of Brooksville, who was a top 15 finisher in last year's 2A state cross country race.
