FHSAA 1A State Meet Girls Recap

FHSAA 1A Girls 800m Run
Mary Ellen Eudaly (Cambridge Christian) 2:14.55

A two-time state champion at 1600 meters, Mary Ellen Eudaly won her first state title at a different distance at 800 meters for her third race of the day to help the Cambridge Christian's team cause to the 1A team title.

Coming off a hard state meet record effort in the 1600 meter run earlier in the evening, the University of Arkansas commit Eudaly sat back in the field thru the first lap before seizing the lead on the backstretch from early leaders in ninth grader Kashia Hoo of Chaminade-Madonna and seventh grader Jordan Johnson of Pahokee with 300 meters to go.

Oak Hall junior Sydney Miller seemed to be counter or following all of Eudaly's moves up until that point and went with her as well to push her for the final lap. Eudaly was able to find enough left in the tank to hold her off and win by over a second in a 2:14.85 clocking. Miller clocked a new personal best time of 2:15.91 for state runner-up honors.

Impressively, Johnson of Pahokee finished third in the high school state meet as a mere seventh grader in 2:17 while another middle school grade runner  in Cambridge Christian eighth grader Eliana Black was fourth in 2:17.

Plenty of youth found among the top eight All-State finishers including six in 10th grade or younger and only one senior in the race champion Eudaly.
