The
Legends of Alachua County Invitational features some of Florida's top-ranked girls and boys so far this indoor season, some proven challengers, and a few fast athletes making their indoor debuts. With elite sprint talent in most events and loaded 400m fields, the meet is primed for some big performances and breakout moments. Below is a preview of a few of the top events to watch for this Saturday and Sunday. MileSplit is live-streaming the meet.
Boy's 60m
The boys' 60 meters features Brady Pineo of Wesley Chapel HS(VAST Track and Field). He has a FL No. 3 ranking behind No. 1 Rhoan Kaulder of IMG and No. 2 Davion Crumitie of Rickards. Kaulder is running in the Millrose 60m this friday and Crumitie is not scheduled to run. Pineo is coming off a 6.82 win at the Puma New York International Showcase. Don't believe the other seed times. Elijah Stratford of Wharton (Speed Starz) ran a 7.05 at Jimmy Carnes two weeks ago. If Pineo has a good start, he may go sub-6.80.

The women's 200m features a fascinating blend of raw speed and proven quarter-mile strength.
Ariyanna Griggs (BioCore Sports Performance) leads the seeded runners at 23.52, followed closely by Journee Belcher (Rickards) at 23.63 and Riley Smith (Optimize) at 23.80. Griggs has run 7.46 inthe 60m this indoor season in an indoor/outdoor meet. Belcher was 8th at Jimmy Carnes in the 400m with a 57.50.

This just may be one of the highlight races of the meet. Miles Outerbridge (Montverde Academy) vs. Brady Pineo of Wesley Chapel HS (VAST Track and Field). Pineo is currently ranked FL No. 1 with a 20.92 from December's Galleria Games, and Outerbridge, FL No. 3 with a 21.34 win at the VA Showcase. It may come down to the lane assignment, but both want to make statement races, and we just may see both go sub-21 again.

Girl's 400m
The girls' 400m is loaded, with less than a second separating the first six seeds. Vanessa Waite (Power House Athletics) leads at 53.28, but she'll be under immediate pressure from Nakira Hudson, Adriana Rodriguez, and Dasia Reed of Montverde Academy, who bring speed, experience, and depth.
Add in Journee Belcher (Rickards) and Isabel Head (Ocala Track and Field Elite), and this race shapes up as one of the premier races of the meet. The last 10m may decide the race. I would prefer to see all six girls in the same heat, but we may see them in two. Rodriguez leads the state rankings with a 54.86, but her teammates Hudson and Reed were with her at the finish line at the Sunshine Showcase. Reed and Hudson were DQ'd, however, for lane violations. Head comes i with a No. 4 ranking with a 56.49 from the Clemson High School Invitational. Belcher has a 57.50 from Jimmy Carnes. Waite was out last season with an injury, but is back at full strength this season, and she and Reed are ranked No. 1 & 2 in the 200m this season. This should be a good one.
