Florida's middle school girls are already turning in elite middle school sprint performances this season. From fast 100's d to sub-58 second 400's, we can expect a standout spring. Here's a breakdown of the current state leaders.
The fastest 100m time in Florida belongs to 6th-grader Carter Grigg (Northside Christian, Class of 2032), who clocked 12.27 to win the Indian Rocks Middle School Meet on Feb. 10.
Right behind her:
-
Tamia Nixon (Admiral Farragut Academy, 2030) - 12.40
With both athletes already under 12.50, the 100 leaderboard is shaping up for a fast spring, especially as others join these two under 12:50.
Grigg's didn't stop at the 100m. She also owns the state's top 200m mark with a 25.29, also set at the Indian Rocks Middle School Meet.
Other top performers:
-
M'Kaylah McCoy (Ammons Middle School, 2030) - 25.50: Miami-Dade MS/K-8 Championship (Feb. 7)
-
Tamia Nixon (Admiral Farragut Academy, 2030) - 25.60: Indian Rocks Middle School Meet (Feb. 10)
The three girls are separated by just .31 seconds, making this one of the tightest events in the state. Expect it to get even tighter as we move further into the spring season.
In a deep 400m field, the top middle schooler in Florida so far is Kai Axem (Ammons Middle School, 2030) with a strong 57.48 at the Louie Bing Invitational (Feb. 13-14). Only two girls are sub-59, but this should change fast as many of the 100-200 girls move up to the 400m.
Close contenders include:
-
Tamia Nixon (Admiral Farragut Academy) - 57.60: St. Petersburg MS Championship (Mar. 3)
-
M'Kaylah McCoy (Ammons Middle School) - 59.79: Louie Bing Invitational (Feb. 13-14)

HURDLES
The top 100m hurdles time in Florida belongs to Mika Tucker (Dunedin Highland Middle School, Class of 2030), who clocked 16.75 to win the PCAC Middle School Track & Field Championships on March 2.
Right behind her, separated by just .19 seconds, in the same championship race was:
-
Ainsley Rettew (James B. Sanderlin K-8 IB World School, 2030) - 16.94
In the 200m hurdles, Aiyana Jones (Emerald Coast Middle School, 2031) leads the state with a 32.75 performance at the Stingray MS Open on Feb. 13.
Close challengers include:
-
Remy Rachels (Calvary Christian Academy - Ft. Lauderdale, 2031) - 33.37 (-2.1 wind)
-
Aubrie Lewis (Calvary Christian Academy - Ft. Lauderdale, 2031) - 33.51 (-3.0 wind)
Both Calvary Christian athletes ran into significant headwinds at the Pine Crest Middle School Meet, suggesting even faster times could be on the horizon in better conditions.

FIELD EVENTS
Florida's middle school girls have already been putting up big middle school marks across the field events this season. From multi-event standouts to event specialists, here's a breakdown of the current state leaders.
Leading the High Jump rankings and setting the early standard is Brinley Temperton (Northside Christian, Class of 2030) with a clearance of 1.42m at the St. Petersburg MS Championship on March 3.
Close behind Temperton by just two centimeters is:
-
Peyton Floresca (Seminole MS, 2030) : PCAC Middle School Track & Field Championships (Mar. 2)
With just two centimeters separating the top two, this event is primed for movement as the season continues.
Already the sprint leader, Carter Grigg (Northside Christian, 2032) shows her versatility by topping the Long Jump with a big 5.56m leap at the Keswick Christian MS Meet #2 (Feb. 24).
Chasing Grigg with leaps over the 5.00m benchmark are:
-
Kiana Stocker (Palmer Trinity, 2030) - 5.17m
-
Travaria Bain (Highland Oaks Middle School, 2030) - 5.11m
-
Raelynn Houser (Dunedin Highland Middle School, 2030) - 5.01m
Travaria Bain (Highland Oaks Middle School, 2030) leads the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.29m, recorded at the Dade County Youth Fair MS Championship on Jan. 24. Her presence near the top of both jumps establishes her as one of the state's top middle school jumpers.
The top Pole Vault mark belongs to Scout Ryland (Seaside Neighborhood School, 2032), who cleared 3.07m at the Stingray MS Open on Feb. 13. She is the sole middle school girl over the 3-meter barrier early in the season.
The Discus leaderboard is separated by just 10 centimeters:
-
Quintvia Mayo (Carol City Middle School, 2030) - 29.92m
-
Brinley Temperton (Northside Christian, 2030) - 29.82m
Temperton isn't just a jumper; she's established herself as one of the top middle school field athletes in the state, and she's also the state's top Shot Putter. She is the only girl over 12m this spring.
-
Brinley Temperton (Northside Christian) - 12.33m
-
Valentina Martinez (Emerald Coast Middle School, 2030) - 11.22m
-
Nikkaya Joyce (Dunedin Highland Middle School, 2030) - 11.21m
Martinez and Joyce are separated by just one centimeter. Expect them to reach over 12m as we progress through the spring season.
In the Javelin, Analia Rosendo (First Lutheran School, 2030) leads Florida with a throw of 39.05m at the Pinellas Youth Conference Meet Two (Feb. 19).
