J'Nia Simpson continues to rewrite the record books.
On Thursday at the AAU Club National Championships at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Simpson added two more national records to her growing résumé. Representing Trailblazer Youth Athletics, she won the girls 17-18 shot put with a throw of 15.16m (49-9), setting both AAU National and AAU Club records.
Her mark surpassed the previous championship record of 47-7 (14.50m), which had stood for 18 years after being set by Emily Vannoy of Frederick, Missouri.
Florida athletes turned in several strong performances throughout the opening days of the AAU National Club Championships, which conclude Saturday at Hodges Stadium. In addition to Simpson, three others set new National/Club records:
