Florida Boys' Top 10 Performances From Week Two: A Recap
Week Two of the 2026 Florida cross country season produced a few fast times, some close finishes, and five different meet champions among the week's 10 fastest boys.
East Ridge senior Axel Sallault led the way with the weekend's only sub-16-minute performance, while Liam Ilea, Luis Rivera, Brody Johnson and Martin Fernandez rounded out the top five. Sallault's victory led a Whispering Pines race that produced four of Florida's top 10 times for the week. The Kowboy XC Invitational added three more, including Rivera's narrow victory over Brody Johnson and Noah Childrey.
With five meet champions, several close finishes and a pair of underclassmen inside the top eight, the season is off to a great start with the state and divisional leaders beginning to exert themselves.
Here are Florida's top 10 boys' 5K performances from Week Two.
1. Axel Sallault, East Ridge - 15:47.00
Axel Sallault separated himself from the rest of the state with an impressive victory at Whispering Pines. The East Ridge senior ran 15:47.00, equaling his time from Cecil Field, winning by 13.60 seconds and producing Florida's only sub-16-minute boys' performance of the weekend. Sallault is tied for Florida No. 6 overall and No. 4 in 4A.
2. Liam Ilea, Tavares - 16:00.60
Liam Ilea delivered the weekend's fastest performance by an underclassman. The Tavares junior finished second at Whispering Pines in 16:00.60, coming within a second of becoming the second Florida boy to break 16 minutes during Week Two. He is ranked No. 16 overall and No. 9 in 3A.
3. Luis Rivera, St. Cloud - 16:04.54
Luis Rivera prevailed in one of the weekend's closest finishes. The St. Cloud senior won the Kowboy XC Invitational in 16:04.54, holding off Brody Johnson of Rockledge by just 0.28 seconds. His time ranks him 22nd overall and No. 10 in 4A.
4. Brody Johnson, Rockledge - 16:04.82
Brody Johnson came within three-tenths of a second of earning the Kowboy XC Invitational title. The Rockledge senior finished second in 16:04.82 and combined with Noah Childrey to give the Rockledge two of Week Two's top seven performances. He's ranked 23rd overall and No. 10 in 3A.
5. Martin Fernandez, Doral Academy - 16:06.46
Martin Fernandez opened the weekend with a victory at Friday's Pine Crest Cross Country Meet. The Doral Academy senior ran 16:06.46, giving him the fifth-fastest time in the state last week. Ranked No. 25 overall and No. 11 in 4A.
6. Skylar Manatt, Cypress Creek - 16:06.70
Skylar Manatt was the third in the highly competitive Whispering Pines meet. The Cypress Creek senior recorded a 16:06.70, placing him sixth among all Florida boys during Week Two. He's ranked 26th overall and 12th in 3A.
7. Noah Childrey, Rockledge - 16:09.31
Noah Childrey helped Rockledge place two runners inside the statewide top seven. The senior ran 16:09.31 to finish third at the Kowboy XC Invitational, less than five seconds behind the winner. He's ranked 13th in the state with a 15:56 at Cecil Field and No. 6 in 3A.
8. Bryant Olson, Niceville - 16:13.57
Only a sophomore, Bryant Olson continued his impressive runs in the early season by winning the Eagle Invitational hosted by Pine Forest. His 16:13.57 was the fastest Week Two time by a member of the Class of 2029. He is currently ranked No. 5 in the state with a 15:43.17 from the Viking Classic (pre-season). He was 5th at Cecil Field with a 15:44.
9. Jonas Williams, Newsome - 16:16.48
Jonas Williams collected one of the weekend's five victories by winning the Lake Region-George Whitmire Invitational. The Newsome senior clocked 16:16.48 to secure the No. 9 position statewide. He's ranked 32nd overall and 15th in 4A.
10. Noah Carpenter, Nature Coast Tech - 16:16.80
Noah Carpenter gave Nature Coast Tech a top-10 statewide performance at Whispering Pines. The senior finished fourth in a loaded race, crossing the line in 16:16.80. His time puts him 33rd overall and No. 2 in 2A.
