Harper, Arroyo Best At Ted Benz XC Jamboree

Several Central Florida cross country squads got a chance to see their summer training in action at the 2011 Ted Benz Cross Country Jamboree at Trotters Park.

The girls 5K race was a two person race between Hagerty's Amy Ankli and Merrit Island's Elizabeth Harper, but it was Harper  taking the win and crossing the finish line around 20:05.8. Amy Ankli finished in second for Hagerty with a 20:30... her Huskies looked impressive with a 10 second 2-4 split; however, did not field a fifth runner and therefore did not place in the team scores.  Colonial filled the void as the girls team champs with Merritt Island, Lyman, Winter Park, and Lake Region the top five.

In the boys race, host Colonial represented well. Junior Andres Arroyo running that course for the first time was all alone in the front winning around 16:07.6, which was 15 seconds better than former Trinity Prep great Steve Curley, and 40 seconds faster than Billy Anguish of Winter Park. Right as predicted the Colonial boys dominated the race with a "miniscule" 20 points with Winter Park, Hagerty, Lyman, and George Jenkins rounding out the top five.
