Okaloosa: Howell, Mosley Individual Champs, FWB Takes Team Trophies

Okaloosa County Championships: Meet Summary

Boys Varsity:

Thomas Howell didn't run in last week's Panhandle Championships so that opened the door for Niceville teammate and fellow sophomore Nick Morken to get the win. This week Howell was back and decided to steal the spotlight from Morken. Howell dominated the race from the start breaking the sixteen minute barrier in a time of 15:55.30. Morken finished second. in 16:28.39. On the team side, it was all Fort Walton Beach led by sophomore Charlie Schackelford. The Vikings runaway with the title placing their top seven runners in the top nine with a mere thirty-seven second spread.

Girls Varsity:

The girls race was a battle between two of the Panhandles top runners Marsel Mosley and Ivy Chastain. Chastain, last week's Warrior of the Week had got the best of the Niceville junior most of the season, but not at the Okaloosa County Championships. The Fort Walton Beach junior took it out strong, but it was Mosley with a more powerful kick down the homestretch that was the difference in this race. Mosley finished just two seconds ahead of Chastain in 18:53.19. Chastain's finished in 18:55.09 way ahead of teammate Rhianna Moller who came in third at 20:10.90. Fort Walton Beach won the team trophy over rival Niceville with 29 points.
