Apopka State Champions Sign College Scholarships

 

Six track and field state champions from Apopka have signed collegiate scholarships. Laila Foster, Rayeisha Lowe-Chin, and Darius Fields will continue their track and field careers while Kimlon Dillion, Synjohn Lilly, and Qua Barnes will play football at the next level.

Laila Foster who took gold in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 39'4 will head to the University of Eastern Michigan. Foster also placed sixth in the long jump with a best of 19'4.

Hurdler Rayeisha Lowe Chin has decided to continue her college career in the state of Florida. Lowe Chin won't have to travel very far from Apopka High School to the University of Central Florida. The future Knight capped off her senior season with a state championship in 300 meter hurdles.  She finished fourth in the 110's and owns personal bests of 42.53 and 14.48 in the two events.

On the boy's side Darius Fields earned a college scholarship in his very first year competing in the sport. Fields who was on the Blue Darters' winning 4x100 relay team is headed to Kansas State University.  Fields anchored the team to a time of 40.69.

Three other members of Apopka's boys track and field team will hang up their track spikes for football cleats in college. Kimlon Dillon who had one of the best state performances of any class finished his senior year with golds in the 110, 300m hurdles, and 4x100m relay. He will play football for West Virginia University. Synjohn Lilly, the 100m dash runner up and member of the state championship 4x1 team is headed to Weber University in Utah. Quay Barnes who was also a member of the winning relay signed a football scholarship to Point University in West Point, Georgia.
