Hey flrunners, another week down in panhandle racing. Two races captured most of the Panhandle runners, the Bay Invitational and FSU Pre-State/Invitational.
Big shout out to the winners of the Bay Invitational in Panama City, not only were there PRs for boys winner, Brandon Amendt, and girls winner, Rachel King, but I heard course records were downed too!
Our second consecutive week of facing fierce competition was at the FSU invitational. Like last week at the flrunners.com Invitational there were many races for all levels of talent. Everything about both meets was top notch. We arrived on Friday, and got another chance to take in the lay out of the course to prepare for the State Championship meet. A venue like this is perfect for the needs of our runners for the state meet, which will be held on a significantly more difficult course than previous years.
We didn't get to watch the college races but saw some of the guys warming up and that was cool to see some of our alumna. Saturday morning came fast, and everyone was ready to go. We raced first, which doesn't happen often, but hey you will hear no complaints out of the guys who usually run in the hotter part of the morning. This week was better in terms of execution for our team, coming out of the race with satisfaction of working together and but also, knowing your hard work is paying dividends. We raced tightly as a pack and let it go the last half-mile with our top four finishing with a four second split. We are currently working on pulling five thru seven down to the rest of us, bringing the whole team closer and more competitive as a whole. At Fort Walton we have no worries about who is first in the group, or even last, as long as the job gets done.
Again, the Niceville duo did what they do best finishing in modest places of third and fourth overall individually. Also in the boys race was Leon with Suhki Khosla, another 10th grader leading them with an awesome 15:54. We had some other Panhandle teams at the meet, but in other divisions also. In the invitational, Harrison Edwards of Washington won the large school race in a time of 16:42. In the invitational race, fellow sophomore, Sean White, lead the Choctaw Indians and placed high individually in a time of 16:41. In the small school boys race, Travis Covert lead Maclay to a high finish with a sub 17 showing. It’s a great feeling knowing that your region is stepping up.
Next up, Dolphin Dash. Quote of the week: "when in doubt, go/”
New twist: If you comment with the correct answer to why this number is significant to running I will personally send you a running shirt/hat/shorts/socks of your choosing. Yes/no questions allowed.
