Triniy Prep's Salas, Dr. Phillips' Johnson Soar At West Orange Invitational

On-Site Coverage

Meet Recap

On one of Central Florida’s fastest, yet most diversified course—that of West Orange High School--some “old,” and some “new” runners notched that all-important final invitational victory before their respective conference meets.

In the Boys’ Varsity race, Trinity Prep’s Dan Salas found Freedom’s Connor Ferrentino no easy opponent in what unfolded as a tight, two-man, wire-to-wire race. Coming into the last, long straightaway, even with a slight lead, Salas had to turn on the afterburners to seal his victory. The final times were: Salas first in 15:40.89, and Ferrentino second in 15:42.89.

Almost in a replay, Dr. Phillips’ Amber Johnson was relentlessly pursued by Lake Nona’s freshman phenom, Adair Lyden. Although “comfortably” ahead by the last 400, Amber wisely chose not to ease up, and won her first big race. Johnson crossed in 18:45.27—one second off her PR—and Lyden followed in 19:03.42.

The JV Boys race was won by Oviedo’s David Anderson (by .35 second over LN’s Yevier Lopez); the JV Girls race by Abby Vahle, of host West Orange. The winners were, respectively, a sophomore and a freshman. Anderson was timed in 18:19.19, and Vahle in 22:28.30.

The team winners were as follows: TP in VB; First Academy in VG; Oviedo in JVB; and West Orange in JVG.
