Commentary: Most of the district meets played out fairly predictably. Others seem strange, but who knows… the regional meets will sort most of it out. There may be some surprises at the bottom of each region. One thing is for sure - most everyone outside the top three or four of their region is going to have to be on top of their game if they're going to get through.

Commentary: Going with the top ten from each region. Most of these should be pretty comfortable getting through, but beyond that, it can really get up in the air. Times are not listed, but there are still a lot of PRs lingering from flrunners and pre-state.

Commentary: This week's rankings are based on one race only -- The District Championship. Let's face it, runners can race quickly at all the weekend Invitationals, but not doing so at the District Championship can mean an early end to the cross-country season. I've listed the Top 15 qualifiers in each of the four, 2a Regions, based on District times only. It's nice to see so many new names making their debut in the rankings. I wish all our 2a girls the very best in their Regional races this week.

Commentary: After analyzing results from 16 different districts on many different courses over many days, the team race gets even harder to figure out than it was just a few weeks ago. Hopefully the Regional Championships will make everything easier to understand as we're almost at the conclusion of the 2012 season.
Team Rankings by Region:
Region 1 Commentary: Olympia and Hagerty are definitely two top five teams and have pulled away from the rest of the group, after that it's the Region of Death scenario for the remaining teams. Who peaks to get out? Who has the better first five finishers? Only time will tell! (Note: Districts 1, 2, and 3 all ran pretty fast and District 4 was so short I adjusted by 90 seconds.)
Region 1: (15 teams) | State | (Prev.) | Comments:

8. | Winter Park | x | (13?) | Avg: 20:46; Spr: 2:16 |
Region 2 Commentary: Districts 5 and 6 appeared to be really fast, maybe middle measure, courses. District 7 seemed a little quick as well, but not by much. Region 2 will be the same as the last couple of years: Plant running away with it. After that, it's a tight middle race, and a tight race for the 5th and 6th qualifying spots as well.
Region 2: (13 teams) | State | (Prev.) | Comments:
1. | Plant | T-1 | (2) | Avg: 19:19; Spr: 2s |

8. | Seminole | x | (NR) | Avg: 21:23; Spr: 1:25 |
9. | Sarasota Riverview | x | (16) | Avg: 21:27, Spr: 1:03 |
Region 3 Commentary: Similar to Region 2, this region is a run-a-way for St. Thomas. Also note that the times / team averages continuously get slower as we move down through the state towards the South. Districts 10 and 12 looked a little quick, but nothing too outrageous.
Region 3: (15 teams) | State | (Prev.) | Comments:
1. | St. Thomas Aquinas | T-1 | (1) | Avg: 19:26; Spr: 1:05 |

8. | Boca Raton | x | (22) | Avg: 22:38; Spr: 3:52 |
Region 4 Commentary: Same as last year, "And finally we have the slowest Region of the state, partially due to it being South Florida and partially due to Districts 13-16 all being run at Larry & Penny Thompson Park." Ferguson and Lourdes are your top two squads, followed by Coral Reef and South Dade, and then a small battle to qualify on to the State meet.

2A Boys Rankings | By: Mike Becker, Ransom Everglades, mbecker@ransomeverglades.org
Team Rankings: | |||
Commentary: You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that BK is number one with two weeks left. But two weeks is an eternity. Lake Nona is making a late charge as predicted (see first honor roll). To catch BK, they will not only have to keep improving, but race at FSU (where BK is already a seasoned team). After Lake Nona, it is hard to separate. Jesuit wins a tough district rather easily. Immokalee looked slow and their number one was "way back". but I will still show a little love. Cocoa Beach (neck and neck with Immokalee) wins a tough distict easily as well, but seems to still be lacking the 4 and 5 to make a charge for the podium ( but like I said there are two weeks left). Ransom wins weak district easily and will run with the pride of a defending state champion. Don't know what happened to Nature Coast's 5th runner. If he is still a factor, they can challenge for the podium. Otherwise their fith is too far back. NC has matched up less head to head with others on the honor roll. Good luck to all. Last year I was 10 of 10 picking the top ten after region, getting almost every one in order, so I will study carefully to try to duplicate this feat. It will be difficult as 3-8 (and maybe even 9) is a logjam.
Team Name | (Prev.) | Comments:
1. | Bishop Kenny | (1) | This one is easy, untouchable to date |
2. | Lake Nona | (5) | This one is easy too, well coached group |
3. | Jesuit | (6) | Wins the toughest AA district |
4. | Immokalee | (2) | Is always inseparable from CB |
4 | Cocoa Beach | (3) | Wins the second toughest AA district |
6. | Nature Coast | (4) | What happened to 5th runner at district? |
7. | Ransom Everglades | (7) | Improving at the back of their top 5 |
8. | Berkeley Prep | (T-10) | You knew they's be back |
9. | Robinson | (8) | Only 3rd at District but a top ten team |
10. | West Florida Tech | (9) | Wins district convincingly |
11. | Gulf | (NR) | Destroys field "is course fast"; could be better |
12. | Bishop Moore | (NR) | Solid runner up in tough district |
13. | Lake Highland Prep | (T-10) | Third in tough district |
14. | Eastside | (13) | Wins district easily |
15. | Episcopal | (NR) | Edges Bolles in tough distiict |
16. | Bolles | (NR) | You know they will be there |
17. | Pine Crest | (NR) | # 2 or 3 team down south |
18. | St Andrews | (NR) | Ditto |
Individual Rankings: | |||
Commentary: Barr and Yarbrough running like peas in a pod. If either or both are pressed, it will an interesting region finish. As to who will do the pressing at state…. still two weeks left…. But Alex Pedraza who has improved by minutes and has not run against Kenny yet ( I think) is the most likely challenger. He has come out of the bushes. Xavier Walton is a legit contender, as is O'laughlin. Dela Cruz has run 16:03. Sheppard lurking .... All in all, the crystal ball will become a bit clearer after this week. I realize that there is a great diversity among district courses. So if you were left off this week, prove your point at regions. This year is way tougher to call than last year.
Athlete Name – Team | (Prev.) | Time, Comments:
1A. | Michael Barr - Bishop Kenny | (1) | The only sub 16:00 runner in the field |
1B. | David Yarbrough - Bishop Kenny | (T-4) | Certainly at least even with Barr |
3. | Alex Pedraza - Golden Gate | (NR) | Comes out of NOWHERE, and not a fluke - two great races against top competiton before winning district |
4. | Xavier Walton - Titusville | (8) | Wins in a tough district |
5. | Tim O'laughlin - Jesuit | (6) | Wins a tough district as well |
6. | Leonel De la Cruz - Immokalle | (2) | Off day?, or is there a problem? |
7. | Costa Thasis - Cocoa Beach | (T-4) | 2nd in toughest district |
8. | Erick Medina - Labelle | (NR) | Likely better than recent 16:55 |
9. | Nick Buliga - Gulf | (NR) | Making late season charge |
10. | William Decker - Bolles | (9) | Seconds behind Barr and Yarbrough last week |
11. | Dalton Sheppard - Lake Placid | (3) | Second at his district race, could be a top ten runner |
12. | Jean Carlos Peralta - Lake Nona | (NR) | District champion over LHP and older LN runners |
13. | Christina Vazquez - Lehigh | (NR) | District champion |
14. | Cory Sayyeau - Cocoa Beach | (13) | Strong district race |
15. | Miguel Casiano - Lehigh | (7) | Ran behind teammate at districts |

18. | George Velez - Lake Nona | (NR) | District runner up |

22. | Kevin Ciccone - Nature Coast | (NR) | District Champion |
3A Boys Rankings | By: Carl Egbert, Barron Collier HS, carlegbert@yahoo.com
Team Rankings: | ||
Commentary: Step 1 is done in the post season and boy did we see some interesting results. District 12 saw the Greenies Duo go 1-2 upsetting Carlos Miranda and Fort Myers winning easily over Naples. District 1 saw the best 1-2 punch in the State in Howell and Morken go 1-2 and FWB put on a clinic with a :21 second spread 1-5 and :35 1-6!!! I don’t care how the course ran ( fast or slow) that is just awesome! In District 16 Lopez wins easily and Belen rolls going 1-7. This is just the first round and we have some awesome matchups this week and below is how I believe they will play out.
REGION 1 | ||
1. | Fort Walton Beach | They are the class of Region 1 and should roll through this region very easily. |
2. | Chiles | Won a close one over Leon in District 2 and should be runner up here. |
3. | Leon | Will be a close 3rd here to FWB and Chiles |
4. | Creekside | District 3 Champions will be 4th here |
5. | Niceville | District 1 runner ups will be pushed through by the 1-2 punch of Howell and Morken |
6. | Stanton Prep | Only 3rd in District 2 but will be 6th and on the starting line at the State meet. |
Note: The individual battle will be a good one with Morken, Howell, Khosla and Zimmerman. This pollster predicts that Robertson and Edwards from Washington will get out.
REGION 2 | ||
1. | Sarasota | District 6 Champs |
2. | Steinbrenner | District 8 Champs |
3. | Sickles | District 8 Runner Up |
4. | Wiregrass Ranch | District 6 Runner Up |
5 | George Jenkins | District 7 Champs |
6 | Land O Lakes | District 6 3rd place finisher |
Note: Fator from Sickles is my pick to win this region with the duo from Sarasota close behind and the boys from Steinbrenner in contention. Thrailkill from Edgewater will be the lone individual qualifier.
REGION 3 | ||
1 | Fort Myers | Thumped the field at D-12 meet. I expect much of the same at Estero on Friday |
2. | Naples | Needs a better effort out of #5 and need Gates and Shearer to run well |
3 | Estero | Will be a solid 3rd here but really need 4-5 to step up and run better |
4 | Palmetto Ridge | Only 3rd in D-12 but will be 4th here |
5 | Osceola | Won D-10 and will handle the sand at Estero well enough to make it through |
6 | Ida Baker | Will be the 4th squad from D-12 to make it through |
Note: Bennett and Brown ran away from Miranda at North Collier on Halloween but Estero is a completely different animal with hills and sand. Carlos was a bit off his game and I look for him to rebound and win this region for the 3rd straight year. Meester-Kitterman will be the lone individual qualifier out of this region.
REGION 4 | ||
1 | Belen Jesuit | Top team in the State |
2 | Martin County | District 14 Champ |
3 | Melbourne | Rolled to victory in D-13 |
4 | Jensen Beach | Gave Martin County and good run in D-14 |
5 | Pembroke Pines | Won D-15 handily |
6 | South Fork | 3rd in D-14 but will grab final spot in this region |
Note: Belen Jesuit will grab 7 of the top 15 spots not leaving much for the others. Marcus Smith will grab the only individual spot out of this region. |

4A Boys Rankings | By: Jorge Fleitas, Columbus HS - jfleitas@columbushs.com
Team Rankings: | |||
Team Name | (State) | Comments:
4A Region 1 | |||
1. | Colonial | (1) | The talent level up front on the Colonial roster is pretty impressive, watch for them to go 1,3,5,6 at Regionals. |
2. | Mandarin | (4) | The Mandarin Squad and Weaver are establishing their place among the 4A Best with Weaver running a 15:51 win at Districts and a team average of 16:23. |
3. | Boone | (7) | A big District Win over Olympia moves Boone up in this week's rankings, and if they put a performance like that in Regionals it should put a stamp on the Braves making it to the state meet. |
4. | Buchholz | (8) | A big Victory over FPC by 1 point, may be enough to keep them in and someone else out come states. |
5. | Timber Creek | (9) | The Wolves are led by Brandon Marquez ans his front running capabilities, this will leave them to have a fighting chance out of the Region of Death. |
6. | Flagler Palm Coast | (10) | I see FPC barely sneaking by a good Lyman team that won District 2 and a good Olympia Team. It looks like the Region of Death will strike and leave 2 of a possible top 10 teams out of the state meet. |
4A Region 2 | |||
1. | Plant | (2) | Plant has a chance to relax during Regional without anyone breathing down their necks. An impressive District win pts Plant at #2 |
2. | Newsome | (14) | A District Win with a 17:31 Team average puts Newsome in the Top 15. |
3. | Bloomingsdale | (16) | |
4. | North Port | (18) | |
5. | Seminole | (19) | |
6. | St. Petersburg | (21) | |
4A Region 3 | |||
1. | St. Thomas | (6) | Aquinas has been closing the gap on the Top 5 Teams in 4A every week 16:53 Team Average in District 12 has them looking at snagging a Top 5 Finish at State. |
2. | Park Vista | (11) | Look For Vista to be the Runner up in 4A Region 3 a nice 1-4 puts them here. |
3. | John I Leonard | (13) | It seems the Rivalry between Park Vista and John I. Leonard brings the best out of both Teams, a 17:46 Team average on a tough course moves them into position as a possible top 10 Team. |
4. | Douglas | (20) | |
5. | Spanish River | (22) | |
6. | Boca Raton | (23) | |
4A Region 4 | |||
1. | Sunset | (3) | Sunset will go into Regional and should come up top after a Win over Columbus in Junior Orange Bowl |
2. | Columbus | (5) | Columbus Perfect scores the District meet first time in school History. It seems a bug has struck Columbus's # 4 runner and they may have to run without him at Regionals. |
3. | Ferguson | (12) | The Falcons are always peaking in the right time of the season a 17:12 Team average and District 15 Runner-up Trophy has them looking at a top 10 finish at the State Meet. |
4. | Coral Reef | (15) | It Looks Like the Reef will round up the top 15 with a District 16 Victory with 17:32 Team Average. |
5. | Felix Varela | (17) | |
6. | Coral Park | (24) |
