The 2014-2015 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

The top 32 senior girls from across the state will run one last cross country race in the Sunshine State at Lake Nona High School in Central Florida. The East team looks like the squad to beatwith the top three entrants in the field in Olympia's Emily Headley, Emily Chapman from Brevard HEAT, and Fatema Jaffer of Lake Mary. Jaffer was sixth at the 4A Cross Country Finals while Headley was 12th. Chapman was 7th at the 1A Cross Country Finals. Watch for a trio from the north to also be in the mix for the team title with Jessica Taylor of Creekside, Audrey Carpenter of Vanguard, and Morgan Lucey of Episcopal leading the way.

Alexa Cruz looked like she had turned on the "Cruz control" at the 2013 Cross Country Finals. The St. Thomas Aquinas standout and runner-up the previous fall, ran away from the field to win the championship in 18:02.26, the fastest time of any returner. Cruz had a very successful outdoor track and field season winning the 3200m state championship and posting season bests of 5:07.03 (1600m) and 10:43.79 (3200m at Texas Relays).  She headlines the 4A leaderboard. Standing in her way will be Emily Headley. The Olympia senior was second as a freshman, fourth as a sophomore, and third as a junior. The only place she hasn't finished is first. Is this her year?

Dr. Phillips' junior Bridget Blake runs away with her second straight 4A title. Plant wins a heated battle for the team title with 73 points, two more than runner-up Ferguson, and four more than third place finisher St. Thomas Aquinas.
