Track & Field Top 50: Girls 100m Hurdles Todd Grasley Jan 11, 2016

University of Florida signee Kimani Rushing would have been the top returner for the 2016 season. However, the Hallandale senior, and 2A state champion opted to head to Gainesville early. That leaves 3A champion Timetria Mitchell of Miami Northwestern who will join her as a Gator in the fall (13.59) and University of Tennessee signee and 4A runner-up Domonique Turner of Osceola (13.72) as the only two runners to have gone under under 14 seconds. Check out the top 50 girls times.


Track & Field Top 50: Boys 110m Hurdles Todd Grasley Jan 11, 2016

Damion Thomas of Northeast came up just short of setting the sophomore class national record in 2015. His time of 13.64 at Florida Relays was one-tenth short of the mark and his 13.62 to win the Brooks PR Invitational would have beaten it had it not been wind-aided. He returns not only as the top hurdler in Florida, but with the best wind legal mark in the nation for 2016.

If the 2015 version of the FSU Relays is any indication, Florida's fastest two-miler will be determined in Tallahassee. That meet saw four runners under 10:48 lead by Winter Park's Rafaella Gibbons who finished first in 10:42.20. Gibbons recently ran 10:27.00 at a time trial in preparation for the Nike Southeast Regional. Six girls including Gibbons: Julia Montgomery, Hannah Brookover, Alexa Cruz, Kayley DeLay, and Rebecca Clark all have run sub 11 minutes and look to run even faster in 2016.  Check out the top 50 girls times.

Lyman senior Joshua Jacques won the 4A Cross Country Finals as a junior as well as the 4A state title outdoors in the 3,200m. His time of 9:11.00 is the fastest heading into 2016 by over 9 seconds. Check out the top 50 boys times.

4A might be the most competitive classification in the girls 1,600m this season with the top five runners from the state meet all returning. Kayley DeLay of Fletcher (purple) finished third at the meet, but is only one of three girls in the state to have run under five minutes, with the top returning time of 4:57.83 from 4A District 1 Championship. Merritt Island's Steven Cross ran 4:13.97 at last year's 3A state championship and finished THIRD. That' right third behind champion Avery Bartlett (4:12.76) and runner-up Sukhi Khosla (4:12.85). The FSU signees time is nearly 3 seconds faster than Dominic Williams of Robert E. Lee. 23 runners under 4:25 means this season is going to be fast! Lake Brantley senior and Oklahoma State signee Sinclaire Johnson is the two-time defending 4A state champion in the 800 meters and boasts a personal best of 2:08.71 from last year. She headlines a list of girls half milers that has 15 runners under 2:15. Check out our top 50 returners for 2016!

Columbus senior Humberto Freire and Flagler Palm Coast senior Justin Pacifico battled it out in the 800m at the 4A state championship last year. Freire won the battle in the top returning time for 2016 of 1:53.03, but Pacifico, the 4A Cross Country Finals runner-up was only FOUR TENTHS behind. Tamani Wilson of Lincoln and Janaya Chambers of Stanton Prep are no stranger to each other. The duo went head to head at the FSU Relays with Wilson winning out, but Chambers captured the 3A crown at the state meet. Both have identical personal bests of 54.17, tied for second only behind IAAF World Youth qualifier Symone Mason. Check out our top 50 girls returners in the quarter-mile.

Symone Mason's personal best of 23.07s for 200m is not only the top returning time in the state, but the fourth fastest in the nation of those competing in 2016. Mason is joined by Twanisha Terry, Alfreda Steele, and Karimah Davis as the only runners in the state to have cracked 24 seconds and a total of 42 under 25 seconds. Check out the complete list! Track & Field Top 50: Boys 200m Dash Todd Grasley Jan 05, 2016

There might not be a more versatile sprinter in the country then Tyrese Cooper. As an EIGHTH GRADER Cooper swept the FLYRA Middle School State Championship winning the 100 (10.61), 200 (21.26), and 400m (47.76). At the USATF Region 16 JO Championships he set a meet record and clocked a blazing 20.94s 200m (0.6 m/s wind), the fastest time of any athlete in the state and tenth fastest nationally at the time. "Smoke" as he is called will begin his freshman year at American High School where he will be reunited with former Miami Gardens XPress Coach Darius Lawshea. Track & Field Top 50: Girls 100m Dash Todd Grasley Jan 04, 2016

21 girls ran under 12 seconds in the 100m dash in 2015 lead by Khalifa St. Fort's 11.19 at the IAAF World Youth Championships where she was second. St. Fort will not compete in FHSAA competition this year as she runs unattached in select open races under the eye of coach and Trinidad & Tobago Olympian Ato Boldon. Look for 2A state champion Alfreda Steele (who moves up to 3A) and 3A state champion Twanisha Terry of Miami Northwestern (pictured above) to battle out for the fastest in Florida at the the end of the year.



Track & Field Top 50: Boys 100m Dash Todd Grasley Jan 04, 2016

Cocoa senior Chauncey Gardner clocked the fastest 100m time in 2014 when he ran a wind-aided 10.38 to win the 2A state championship. With Gardner graduating early and enrolling at the University of Florida to play football who will  be the Sunshine State's fastest man? Look for 4A runner-up at LSU signee Alvin Bryant (pictured above) of Dr. Phillips to fill that void along with a host of other runners who have all run better than 10.7s.
