Athletes Of The Week: Michelle Howell, Javon Patterson Todd Grasley May 22, 2013

Seminole Ridge senior Michelle Howell and Boyd Anderson sophomore Javon Patterson are this week's Athlete of the Week winners. A week after winning a state title in the 800 metersshe took her talents to Orlando where she won the same event at the Golden South Classic  with a new personal best time of 2:09.61 just shy of a meet record. Patterson finished runner-up at the 4A state finals to Andres Arroyo, but proved he will be one to beat for years to come. He followed that up with a runner-up finish at Golden South in the 800. His time of 1:51.13, was the second fastest in the state only to Arroyo, the fastest in the country for a sophomore, and 15th fastest regardless of class in all of the U.S.

Athletes of the Week: Trayvon Bromell, Kaylin Whitney Todd Grasley May 09, 2013

Gibbs senior Trayvon Bromell and East Ridge freshman Kaylin Whitney our this week's Athletes of the Week. Bromell proved why he is one of the top sprinters in the country beating Kendal Williams head to head in the 100, and running down opponents to give his team the 4x100 title. Bromell also finished second in the 200. Whitiney capped off a stellar high school season by winning her first two gold medals of her career at the 4A State Championship. Whitney won both the 100 and 200 meters in rain soaked conditions at the University of North Florida.

Athletes of the Week: Amanda Gale, Jerimy Strainge Todd Grasley May 02, 2013

Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) senior Amanda Gale and Plantation American Heritage senior Jerimy Strainge are this week's Athletes of the Week. Gale picked up her first state title in the pole vault, clearing a new personal best mark of 12'6". Gale finished runner-up to her sister Emily last year. Strainge opened up eyes at the 2A State Finals, when he ran a blistering 20.97, US#8 time in the 200 meters to win the state title. He then ran an incredible leg on the team's 4x400 meter team helping them achieve gold. He did this after a three year absense due to injury.

Athletes Of The Week: Regine Williams, Ceolamar Ways Todd Grasley Apr 24, 2013

Hallandale senior Regine Williams and Nease senior Ceolamar Ways are this week's Athletes of the Week. Two weeks after a serious car accident, Williams claimed district titles in the 100 and 200, and finished third in the long jump. She set new personal bests of 11.70 and 23.76 in the 100 and 200. Her 200 mark is the sixth fastest high school time in the U.S. for 2013. Ways has spent 2013 focusing on the shorter sprints and has put up some very impressive times. His 20.93 set at the 3A District 3 Championship was the third fastest time in the nation behind two other Floridians Kendal Williams and Trayvon Bromell. All three will battle it out in the 100 and 200 meter next weekend at the 3A State Finals. 

Athletes Of The Week: Reggie Glover, Nicole Greene Todd Grasley Apr 17, 2013

Dr. Phillips' senior Reggie Glover and Ponte Vedra sophomore Nicole Greene are this week's Athletes of the Week. Glover pulled off the trifecta at the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic winning the 100 (10.60), 200 (21.17), and 400 (46.6) all in personal best times. His 400 meter time is the fastest in the nation for 2013. Greene headed up to the Taco Bell Classic in South Carolina and took home the title in the high jump with a mark of 5'10 which ties her personal best and currently ranks her in a tie for fourth in the nation.

Athletes Of The Week: Jeremiah Green, Johna Whitaker Todd Grasley Apr 10, 2013

Pine Forest senior Johna Whitaker and  Hillsborough senior Jeremiah Green are this week's Athletes of the Week.  Whitaker tore up the hurdles at the Mobile Challenge of Champions. She finished second in the 100 hurdles with a state leading and US#5 time of 13.73 finishing second to Kendell Williams of Georgia. In the 300's she posted another state leading time and US#5 mark of 42.42. Green set new personal bests in the 100,200 and long jump, as well as winning the triple jump to score 40 points for Hillsbourough giving his team a conference championship. Four days later, Green leaped an outstanding 52-1.75 to set a new personal best, and US#1 mark in the triple jump at the Florida Relays.

Athletes of the Week: Levonte Whitfield, Emily Edwards Todd Grasley Mar 20, 2013

Jone's senior Levonte Whitfield and Fort Myer's junior Emily Edwards are this week's Athletes of the Week. Whitfield blazed the track at the Bob Hayes Invitational with a 10.15 clocking in the 100 meter dash. The wind-aided time is state leading, and US#1 all-conditions in 2013. Whitfield wasn't done he went onto lead the Tigers to a second place fniish in the 4x1, and rounded out his day with a runner-up finish in the 200 with a wind aided 20.66. (Florida #2, US#2 all-conditions) Edwards posted a state leading and US#2 time of 4:53.91 to win the LCAC, finished first in the 3200, and 3rd in the 400. Two days later she went 2:15.84 to take gold at the USF/Steinbrenner Invitational and also ran a leg on the 4x4 and 4x8 relay teams.

Athletes of the Week: Kali Davis-White, Austin Droogsma Todd Grasley Mar 13, 2013

Boyd Anderson senior Kali Davis-White and Gulf Breeze senior Austin Droogsma are this week's Athletes of the Week. Davis-White competed against the best sprinters in the nation once and again and like she did at Brooks PR came out with the win. Her time of 23.48 in the 200 is the 7th fastest all-time indoors Droogsma had a monster day in the throws at the Patriot Invitational. In the shot put he unleashed a new personal best, state leading, and US#1 mark of 60-1 and he hrew the discus a state leading 178-2.25. 

Athletes of the Week: Walter Tucker, Darrielle McQueen Todd Grasley Mar 06, 2013

Plantation American Heritage senior Walter Tucker and North Florida Christian junior Darrielle McQueen are this week's Athletes of the Week. Tucker posted a state and nation leading time of 13.89 in the 110 meter hurdles at the Sam Burley Hall of Fame Invitational and also finished third in the 300 meter hurdles and discus. McQueen started her junior year off by putting down a state and nation leading long jump of 19'-08"'. and a state leading and US#2 triple jump mark of 39'-1.5".

Athletes of the Week: Andres Arroyo, Lloydricia Cameron Todd Grasley Feb 28, 2013

Colonial senior Andres Arroyo and Miami Northwestern junior Lloydricia Cameron are this week's Athlete of the Week winners. Arroyo competed against some of the nation's best 800 meter runners at the Brooks PR Invitational and finished third in a US#2 time of 1:51.10. Cameron burned up South Florida competition at the Louie Bing Classic unleashing two monster throws and personal bests in both the shot put (44-0) and discus (154-1).

Athletes of the Week: Brylan Slay, Daryth Gayles Todd Grasley Feb 20, 2013

Holy Trinity junior Daryth Gales and Winter Park senior Brylan Slay are this week's Athlete of the Week winners. Gayle kicked off 2013 with impressive wins at the Eagle Invitational in Jacksonville. She took the long jump in a state leading 18-6.75. Slay won the 400 meter dash at the UK Invitational in a US #5 time and personal best of 48.24. Two days later he claimed titles in both the 300 and 600 meter runs at the Wildcat Open.
